You can actually buy the E S P online cheaper. But you need to do it while within the 3 36.

Good to know. I mean the carfax says the car to truck accident happened around 5k miles. The truck was sold at auction with 20k. I'm sure its fine. But if I can get a few extras out of it I will.

A negative CarFax report is at least a $2000 hit on the purchase/trade-in price. I guarantee the dealership accounted for it on the trade-in or auction. If fact, probably more if it was sold at auction.

No longer stuck in 2003
All you really know is that it hit a deer and hit or was hit by another car. You don't know how significant the damage was. That being said if there aren't obvious signs of damage it's probably ok but I'd use that information to negotiate. Got to kelly blue book and do a price estimate as if you owned the vehicle and go from there.
The problem with carfax is the information that is not recorded. For example the 2003 ranger I bought new was sideswiped by a guy (I'd owned it a year at that point) who missed his turn. His insurance covered it but that repair wasn't reported to carfax. The last time I looked the kid who bent the frame and totaled it's accident wasn't reported either. Carfax is a good starting point but don't take it as gospel. It's very limited and sometimes inaccurate information. On the flip side I wish I'd looked at it before getting the wife's escape.

I looked up the truck on Kelly Blue Book, its going for 29,9k-31k. They're asking 28,9k so I think they're in the ball park and probably took carfax into consideration when pricing. I'd still like to get 500-1000 off though.

If it was sold at auction, you need to know the Kelley Black Book value and...it will be on the high end due to the accident. The dealer absolutely did not pay anything higher than Black Book with an accident on the CarFax. I am surprised they purchased it at all given the recorded accident history so it had to be a good deal for them.

Trying to figure it out!
My question when it comes to carfax is what isn't there? I bought my last truck and carfax was clean. About a year and a half later my sister, an insurance agent, asked me if I knew my truck was in wreck. I had no idea and it was to the tune of $16,000. I was sooo ticked! I'll look at a carfax but climbing under the vehicle is just as valuable.

Well I heard back from the dealership and they're not willing to budge on anything. Brought up the carfax, he told me the truck was priced accordingly because of that. The truck still has warranty left on it but i'm not sure what to do. I know its a bad time to buy a truck and if I wait a few month month when the 2018's start shipping the prices will start to come down. But this truck has everything i'm looking for. Decisions, decisions.
