I think the incentive thing can go either way. You get what is best for them. When I ordered my truck, trade-in incentive was $500. When the truck came in the trade-in incentive was $750. Guess which one I got. Yup, $500. The dealer told me they argued with Ford for half an hour trying to get me the higher amount but I have no way of knowing if that is true or not.

But I digress; my dealer quoted me $31,207 on a truck at a dealer 400 miles away that they were going to trade for to get me what I wanted. One dealer was at $33,880 for THE same truck. The trade fell through so they found another a bit farther away. They called me back and said they didn't want to spend the transport fees and risk it showing up damaged. They offered to order one at the same price. I'm not a negotiator and that price seemed fair to me so I agreed.

I took possession exactly 8 weeks from date order was placed and paid $31,500. The extra was basically the difference between 40/20/40 seats of the first truck versus 40/Console/40 of the ordered truck. MSRP as delivered was $41,290 so I think I did okay at $31,500.

Sorry to be so verbose but that's my story on special order. YMMV
