Buy 2017 or wait for 2018?

If the torque number of 440 is accurate, the 2017 3.5 EB motor beats that today with 470. Given the added costs to maintain a diesel (additives, higher costs for oil change, potential higher cost for fuel, dual filters (likely), etc.) why would someone choose that over the EB that is getting 20+ mpg? At a high level glance it makes little sense to me.

I bought a 17' screw 3.5 eco 10sp instead of waiting for the 18's cause i didn't care for the look of the grill, starting to look like a GMC, also the 3.5 has been revised with both direct and port injection helping to keep valves cleaner. I plan on driving it for 10 plus years. The other 2 motors will also get this set up. as far as the auto start/stop its not as bad as others claim just have to get use to it or push the button on dash on startup to turn it off, it's that easy. If i were wanting a diesel i'd wait one model year so they get the bugs out.

However, I still like the 5.0L over the 3.5L EcoBoost because the possibility of failing turbos makes me cringe.

Where you would see the most advantage with the diesel would be in hauling and towing. That's when the diesel's fuel economy really shines. So unless you're towing something every day, I agree the value is not there.

And the turbos...I'm not concerned with that at all. turbos are a well-proven technology. I've owned a few over the years and never had a bit of trouble with them. I know it can happen just like any other part so of course your results may vary

So what did you decide to do?

COOL Deal. I also hear that the 2018 will have a better ride because Ford is switching from twin-tube to monotube dampers
