Built Ford tough and made to rust??
This is my first post here so if I make some mistakes let me apologize in advance. This is my new 2013 F 150 Platinum. I bought it locally in Baton Rouge with 16 miles on it. It is a 5.0 made in Michigan in February. 4 days after I purchased the truck I was cleaning it when I noticed some rust under the bed. You can imagine my surprise when I stuck my head underneath it and saw what looked to be a 20 year old truck. Now, I understand the drive shaft will rust but come on!! I brought it to the dealership only to have someone tell me that it is "designed" to rust like that. Well if it is then can you point out the section in the F 150 brochure that says our parts are made to rust? Perhaps you would like to tell me where on ford.com I can go and find out that information also? I won't accept the excuse that "we just don't paint as much stuff as we used to". Why not is my question! Change your motto to "Built Ford tough, and made to rust"!!

Mine is the same too...it is just surface rust and I agree...should quit being cheap with a coating to prevent this. I plan to use some high temp spray paint to cover up the affected areas once I brush off the rust as much as possible.

Just for ****s and giggles, I took some pics of my 2004 f150.
I think mine has less rust than yours.
Even if they will not fix, I would make a complaint to Ford - maybe they will do better for future.

Did they park that thing in a salt mine?
My 2010 has virtually no rust on it. At all. I know this because the body was almost completely disassembled in July after an accident

Unfortunately that is happening on trucks across all brands, some are better, some worse. Most of that is the heavy metal and would take over 100 years to rust through.
The only rust I would be concerned about in your picture would be on the muffler and exhaust pipes, to me that is not normal and may cause early failure.

With exception to your muffler mine is the same, this pic shows the drive shaft but after I took the factory exhaust off and put on a SS Magnaflow cat back system.
No worries. But if you're really concerned they sell a spray that reverses rust and can be painted over once it dries up, I forget the name of it so you will need to google for it.
