On the 04-08 generation, The transmission does make me think they are lacking strength, but if you maintain them good, they should last, I bought mine with 90k and it had a trailer brake controller so i know it spent some time of it's life towing, and that took a toll on it.
I agree, I think the transmissions in those trucks were weak judging by the amount of people that have had them fold seemingly early in their life. Its crazy to see the amount of people that have had them crap out close to 100,000 miles.

On another note....that had to have sucked to buy the truck then have the tranny go out 8,000 miles later. Makes ya wonder if the previous owner knew something was about to give so decided to get it off their hands.

The problem with buying used vehicles, is that you have no idea how they were taken care of prior to you taking ownership.

My 2007 had a small issue around 45-50mph but I read that it was common for the tranny to get confused during shifting. It only happened a few times.

I found a full tranny flush fixed it for me. Well worth the money. Made all the difference on my 97. Shifts like glass now at 215K miles too.

Man I agree with your quote, You must maintain or **** will fail you. I've never seen so much complaining on a site that sometimes I'm ashamed to even tell friends to get
On here because of such post.

Yeah well, the worst thing was it happened instantly, going 60 down the highway, bam, drops 4th, bam drops 3rd, screaming in 2nd at 60mph , I had to pull over safely, and then it went in only first, and then only reverse, then nothing, all within 10 minutes

My 06 lariat has 94,000 miles on her. Motor and tranny still original. Still have the original break pads. The only thing replaced so far is the gears. Installed 4.56 to help out with 35 toyos. She still runs great just like when she was new.
