Default 2013 F-150 FX2 HID lamp problem please HELP!

Hello,

Basically, my left HID lamp on my 2013 F-150 FX2 went out this past weekend. I go to Auto Zone and buy the "correct lamp" for my truck. I remove the big block light housing/assembly from the truck to reach the rear area where the light is supposed to be. To my surprise, there is not light there! Only a round circle cover but no light! So I remove this round cover and inside there is this square thing (ballast?) and some wires and other stuff. I was not able to locate the actual lamp so I can install the new one. It's nowhere in sight! Anybody know how to replace this lamp? Do I have to buy the ballast as well? Do I have to open the clear lense from the front to get to the actual lamp?

I called my local dealer who told me the light itself costs $400 bucks and the ballast another $400!!!! I'm freaking out!

I would love to do this job myself and possibly find the parts I need at a cheaper price. I just don't know how to reach the lamp and don't know if I need a ballast or just the light or vice versa. Any help is much appreciated! Thanks!

George

It takes a D3S bulb. When you take the round cover off, the bulb has a base that sits in the projector. You dont need the ballast (unless thats the problem).

That is great news! So does the bulb assembly pull right out? I got rather big hands for the tiny opening. Any idea where I can find a bulb at a reasonable price? Thanks!

The bulb is held in by a retainer clip, which I believe is held in by two small screws with a torx head. You should see the clip/screws by looking straight on into the round opening.

I would replace both bulbs personally... www.theretrofitsource.com has numerous different bulbs. You're gonna wanna stay between 4300k - 5500k bulb temp to stay as close to stock as possible.

Here are the Bulbs, I always replace both since they do get dimmer with age.
Here is the Ballast if you need them.

Thanks for your reply! I managed to remove the security screws but cannot remove the harness that attaches to the square base of the light! I tried using a flat head screwdriver but stopped because I don’t want to mess it up! Is this the correct way? There is no room for my fingers in the round hole
