'96 is my favorite year for F150's. The 92-96 (+97 for super duties) is the best body style these trucks have ever had, imo. And some of the most reliable in there as well... 4.9, 5.0, and the 7.3, that was a sweet lineup for the F-series.

I have the 95 5.0 XLT, extended cab short bed. The only real thing that I would change would be to have it a 4x4.

I'll cast my vote for the 1995 with the 300 six as well.

But the most problem free one I've ever had was my 2002 v6 - you may have better luck finding one of these.

Here in CT it is smart to go pre-1996 (pre-OBDII) since they can't just plug into the port for a pass fail (a CEL is an automatic fail). They have to tailpipe test the car. Something to consider if they test emissions where you are.

I liked my '04 Lariat...I think Ford knocked it out of the park with that design.

I have a 96 and would rather have a 95. lol

OBDII can be a pain especially if you are doing any mods like I do.

I would get a 94-96 F150. You cannot beat those old trucks.

I thought so too until early 2011 when the 12th gen body style finally grew on me. Then all of a sudden my 2006 looked dated and I needed a 12th gen.

I do like that body style, just not that 5.4L.

Thanks for the replies. Surprisingly, cargurus and craigslist have lots of these year models I am looking for (96 - 02)

For me the obdii system is much easier to diag when a problem occurs.
