Bed Liner - need opinions!

Does anyone have a good suggestion for a spray-on? I know there are a few different brands to go with and I am really counting on everyone's experience. I have a 2005 FX4 Supercrew. I plan on using it for just about everything. Things I need to consider are Durability, Fading, and Texture. Also does anyone have any experience with the "tinted" liners? I have thought about going a couple shades darker silver/grey than the vehicle. It seems like it would look good, but I am not sure. Opinions?

I am thinking of Line-x for mine.

wynterspop 02-19-2008 09:28 AM

I have Line-X on my truck. Very happy with it. Had it on a Ranger too. The folks at Line -X take the bolts out prior to spraying the bed. It's my understanding that some of the other brands won't even think about doing that. It also has a life time warranty, say if you chip it.

Input about line-X is right on. Mine is 6 years old. No Problems what so ever! Love how they leave the bolts un coated for future service. Does anyone know if their free touch-up is valid at all line-X shops or do I have to return to original installer.

Danno 02-19-2008 10:30 AM

I have confirmed they do remove all bolts and hooks if possible, but not the plastic OEM bed rails. They are apparently easy to tear/break. I am a little concerned with not having the linex wrap the rail. Is this consistent with you experience?

They also let me know about the Linex-Xtra. Apparently they do a close match base coat and a color match top coat. The top coat is treated with Kevlar and apparently has been holding up very well. It's an additional $259 on top of the $420 base product.

Bill,

Just called them back and the warranty is honored nationwide.

If you haul lots of concrete products, you might want to o with a drop in or a rubber bed mat on top of the spray in. the abrasive concrete will quickly ware down the liner.

But if it has a lifetime waranty, you should be fine.

What's there to think about http://i120.photobucket.com/albums/o...n_question.gif :icon_confused:

I've got a Rhino and it suits me fine. If I had to do it again I would go with Line-X but what I've got gets the job done. I don't really see the point of paying extra for a color matched spray, I mean whats the purpose? It's in the bed of a truck, who is going to see it?

Danno 02-19-2008 11:54 PM

I've decided against the color match. I just thought it would be "different", but I think the money is better spent on other mods. I appreciate the feedback.

dre23 02-20-2008 12:08 AM

I personally don't have, but think that it looks awesome and seems as tho it would get the job done (hauling anything while protecting your bed) and w/a lifetime warranty, how can that be beat?

And yeah, good call on skipping the color matching for $200+!!?? Like Tide said, it's in the bed so who is really gonna see it, and whose gonna really care if it matches?

Now I need to decide on whether to go with the Line-X or the Bedrug?

Gosh darn all of these modding dilemnas!!!

wxmcpo 02-20-2008 12:41 AM

This is on my list of possible future mods to be done. No Line-x dealers in Hawaii though so will have to wait until I make it back to CONUS. I wouldn't even think about going anywhere else except a line-x dealer though.

You could do like me and get both

WC,
So uh, you can't see, and technically aren't even using your Line-X bed liner? Not trying to be mean or an idiot, by what was the point of that?

Unless, you put the BedRug down first and then sprayed Line-X on top that!! Now that would be something to see...I don't know if it would be good or bad, but it surely would be something to see.

:icon_lol: I found the rug on ebay pretty cheap. It was in a dealer's showroom truck, never actually used, but it was installed of course. They sent me a new install kit with it so I figured what the heck.

After having the LineX in my 02 for 4 yrs it had two chip some paint stains and lots of dents. I figure this was a cheap why to keep it clean and dent free. I really gave the bed in the 02 a workout. Funny I also told the wife I need a 6x12 trailer with the new truck because of the workout the last one got. So now the carpet still looks like new and the trailer is getting abused :icon_lol:

I snaped a axle on that very same trailer 2 years ago moving a ice shack. Other than that they are awesome, lol.

Danno 02-22-2008 10:55 PM

Alright. Got the liner today and love it. My only complaint is they did not take out the bed bolts before spraying like they said they would. I didn't bother saying anything because I was so impressed with it.

One cool thing there.

They had all these little Tonka trucks and monster trucks with linex sprayed in them. They looked awesome.

Ty 02-22-2008 10:59 PM

well, its to late to help you , but called up a local line-x applicator, and a rhino liner applicator to see how much it would be to get my rockers rhino lined, and the line-x dealer quited me 400 bucks PER SIDE, and the rhino liner dealer quoted me 400 dollars for BOTH SIDES.

LovetheTide 02-23-2008 12:42 AM

400 per side is crazy! I called some shops in Fort Worth and they wanted like 375 total.

bwassam 02-23-2008 01:09 AM

I got the Linex bed liner and really like it. I also put a 3/4 inch rubber mat in the bed over the linex. It cost me about $70 and it really helps the bed. Now you can get in there without your knees going away in a few minutes. Also when you put something heavy on the mat, it doesn't slide to the front, unless you really stomp on the brakes.

Being in the military all of the pickups we use have Rhino Liner. They get beat up pretty good, but you can tell. I would stick with the Line-X. I heard of somepeople having problems with the Warranties on other liners.

Danno 02-23-2008 12:14 PM

Linex was going to be about $40 cheaper than Rhino. I get up to the counter and if you pay by credit card they charge you an extra 3%. They didn't bother telling me this ahead of time. I would have taken cash in that case. Any way, it looks good and its all behind me now.

What! Was it posted anywhere? If not I would have said sorry about your luck. I had mine done through the dealer when I bought my truck new. I had to ask the LineX dealer for the receipt and warranty paper work after I bought the truck because the dealer never provided it to me. The receipt showed it only cost the dealer 350 or 400. So for them to add 3% on what the already charge is insane. Who does that?? :censored:

Ty 02-23-2008 12:59 PM

I would tell them they could have their cash tomorrow, or they can have my card without the 3% right now.

sure there are credit card fees, but not 3% on 400 bucks...

squirrelyyy 02-24-2008 07:39 AM

I would contact your credit card company I believe it is illegal for a company to charge additional fees for using a credit card.the credit card company may refund your 3%

No it's not illegal. Gas stations use to charge a cash or credit rate per gal. back in my earlier days :icon_lol: Now they just charge a higher rate no matter how you pay.

The only place I am still familiar with that charges a fee like this is my county. If you choose to pay by cc on your personal property tax you have to cover this fee on top of what your already required to pay. Other than that I really don't see anyone else charging this anymore.
