Well this thread did it for me. I know i will never buy a new truck. These problems should already have been addressed by Ford, before they even put them up for sale.

I've always heard to buy a vehicle used cause they usually have all the bugs worked out by then. But we are a small percentage of truck owners that come to these sites and having problems. Guys that don't have problems don't come here so don't fret it.

There's millions of these trucks on the road with no issue but a half dozen posters on a forum have it, and you decide the truck is not for you?

If it makes you feel better, my 2012 Eco has 52,000 on it now and haven't had a single issue AT ALL with it other than a rattle in my door which was my own fault for over tightening my tow mirrors.

If everyone that didn't have any problems started a thread here saying how great their truck was, the ratio would far outweigh those with problems. Most people who own these trucks don't start forum accounts to come tell everyone how great their trucks are performing. Alternatively, when someone has a problem, they often turn to forums as a first line of help. What you tend to see on automotive forums is a very skewed element of the general population being represented.

I will see how the dealership handles the situation first. Don't want to shake up the hornets nest quite yet, I must see the corrective actions or lack of actions first.
Let us know what they say. I'll hold off calling my dealer.

From personal experience, I've noticed this with ALL cars, unfortunately. My 03 eclipse, my friend's civic, and even my 06 subaru. It may be a weird exchange of gases from when the compressor turns off maybe? Honestly, I am not too familiar with the AC units, just that it works and a little bit of the 'how' aspect. But yes. Noticed with most other cars in the summer.

Go on EVERY single vehicle forum that utilizes an AC compressor, and you will find this odor and problem ALL AROUND. New and used, it is just something that happens. With older vehicles, it's obvious that the main concern and problem is with mold. As we all know, or should know, is that going from constant cold to hot creates condensation. And with all condensation sitting around, it is a MASS breeding grounds for mildew and mold. And with that you're going to have a bad time!

Really? I've been driving over 30 years now and I never had this smell. And yes, all but 1 of my vehicles had AC. So why do lets say 80% of those don't have that odor? So your implying 20% of the vehicles should be acceptable? The UCC Codes (Uniform Commercial Codes, 7 of them ) cover this. The implied fit consent of the of the purpose of the said a such unit (AC unit) doesn't perform to the conditions of purpose.
So if your house AC smelled like burnt smelly chemical smell every time it turned on (which is quite a few a day) for a few minutes, that would be acceptable to you??????

Guess I'm lucky that none of my air conditioned vehicles have ever smelled. Say what you will, but a new vehicle should not stink.

I've been driving for 12 years. And I never stated it is ACCEPTABLE, nor have I stated or implied a number to ALL AC equipped vehicles. You seem to like to jump to conclusions, so I will break this down a little easier. The 30 years of driving experience you have were probably all fair a good. Good for you, BUT, in FORUMS AROUND THE WORLD, more than likely more than one person has experienced it in their vehicle, but again NOT EVERYONE.

The smell happens do to a chemical reaction with moisture, where mold and bacteria tend to grow. There area most likely inside the vents, or, the filter itself(leading cause) is where the mold grows, as there most likely a blockage where water is building up and not exiting through its proper channels. It was a known problem in the third generation(2000-2005) Mitsubishi Eclipse.

I have never said that it should, BUT, you are jumping to the conclusion that ALL NEW TRUCKS/CAR are like this. That is like saying, I do not like chocolate chip cookies, so I am boycotting every baker. All specific models/makes of vehicles are made in their specific location, this we know, BUT, again, not ever single vehicle is entirely built the same. One may have a problem with the transmission, while another has a problem with the trunk latch. Take a look at vehicle recalls. When Toyota had a lot of their vehicles gas pedal/speed sensor would stick, and there was a big recall, but that was not every single vehicle Toyota put out.
