There's the same unoriginal Prius comment in every thread like this unfortunately.

I disagree on the sticker comment. Mine is getting slightly above the posted average, and quite pleased with it. Averages are 16 city and 22 highway, mixed is 18. Mine is 19, and I have seen up to 24 MPG.

When you are talking about getting 14 MPG, a 1 MPG difference is actually huge compared to getting 25 MPG and losing 1 MPG. Do the math and figure out the percentage to see what I mean. Is it something to be concerned about? Not at this time of year. Already seeing about a 1MPG drop in mine.

What would concern me is how crappy that truck is getting to begin with. 14 MPG on the highway? If its loaded up with a lot of weight all the time, or has huge knobby inefficient tires I can see that, but even my 2012 4x4 maxed out with options did better on the highway than that.

Since it is winter time now for fuel, not much can be done, but in the spring when the blends switch back, I would get the plugs replaced, filters changed, full synthetic oil put in, change out the rear gear lube, check to make sure no brakes are dragging, and get a tuner with a perf/tow tune and retrain the right foot to drive easy and teach the truck how to give the best MPG. Using Premium for a few tanks will also help, though wont do a thing for any valve gunk in the intake.

I knew exactly when the blends changed, went from consistent over 20 MPG to just barely eeking out 19 in mine.

The EB is a very sensitive engine, you can either get really good MPG out of one, or get really crappy MPG, it is all in how you drive it. In my truck I would have to drive like a mad man in order to get 14 MPG unless I am towing of course. Even when I am aggressive I still manage 18.

Mine also has 3.15 gearing, so at 60 MPH it is roughly at 1350 RPM, and when I accelerate I keep it under 2500 RPM, then set the cruise to 60-63 MPH on the highway to get the best MPG out of it. If I go above 65 I can see it drop considerably, so speed, acceleration, etc. all factor in. Once you train your truck with bad habits, it will keep those bad habits until you flush out and retrain the PCM. Heavy acceleration, high speed driving, etc. all get kept in memory and no matter how much you try to drive conservatively after setting that, you will never see good MPG until you wipe the PCM and retrain it conservatively. Adding a tuner to the mix will give you the ability to retrain the PCM when you need to. I do that before and after a long towing trip. If I dont reprogram prior to a trip I see the power suffers, and if I dont reprogram after towing, MPG suffers. I have had my truck for about 18 months so far and put 59K on it, so have a pretty good idea of what to do with it to get the best of power and MPG.

I have a diesel mechanic that lives down the street from me. He is a Ford Man through and through. He says any Ford at 200 miles gets that same MPG at 100K miles. Not diesel but all gas Fords he claims. My last truck I got 17-18 mpg when new and when I traded at 70K miles. I think hes right.
I don't agree fully with this. I can get better Hwy mpg's easily and match City mpg's if I try a little. Mines about as heavy as they come off the showwroom floor.

Usually it's the expectation that you can drive a turbo vehicle like any other, there is a learning curve to it for City driving. I don't really have any issue on the hwy.
