Bad Fuel Milage!
Hey guys, just wondering what everyone else's MPG run about. I have a 2011 FX4 SuperCrew with the 6.5 box. 2.5 level with 1" rear block.. 285/70/17 GoodYear Duratracs and a backrack with a 52" light bar mounted on top also have a tonneau cover, tow mirrors and have removed muffler but left the resonator, but that's it for mods. My avg city mpg is around 11.5-12mpg and on the highway doesn't go up by a whole lot. Around 15-16mpg. I'm trying to pinpoint my problem, not sure if it's a combination of everything or my tires specifically or what. Do you think the mileage is about right with all the mods or should I be getting better? Any input will help please

The highway sounds about right for a 4x4. Are you tuned at all? The Duratracs will cut into the MPG being a heavier tire than stock. The level will also contribute, but not bad. The in town driving does sound quite a bit low though.
To be fair I have a 13 2WD. I don't have any aftermarket stuff on it.....yet. I'm averaging 18.5-20 on 87 octane highway and 14.6-17 on 87 octane city. Realy depends on if I have to run AC and how busy traffic is.
You being 4x4 is "supposed" to knock off a mile or two per gallon over my 2WD. I've never had a newer 4x4 to compare it to.

I've been getting 15-16 in town and 18-19 mpg on the highway. I usually drive the posted speed limits so it's not like I'm holding up traffic to get these numbers. I'm running the lightweight P rated tires so that saves me about 2 mpg vs the heavier LT tires.

Which engine do you have?
What I see: levelled, wind resistance from light bar, taller tires and exhaust modified. Like tanked_darren said....
But I have to point out that highway speed plays a big part. I just got 23.1 mpg at about 60 (driving 65 with small towns) and a slight tailwind. At 70 it drops to 19 or less, and faster than that it goes down quickly. (MT and WY speed limits up to 80 mph).
Things to help...synthetic oil, both engine and differentials. Lighten your foot, and inflate tires to higher pressure.

^^^^What he said^^^^^ If my truck was jacked up with big tires, I would be happy with 10MPGs!

If your speedometer hasn't been recalibrated for the larger tires, than you are getting slightly more MPG's than the readings on the dash are showing.
