Saw this on the local news. Locked mine as soon as I got it home.
I also back into my driveway close to the garage door so it can't be opened or let down.

Rented a new SCREW in Vegas, back in March. The tailgate was stolen sometime between 2:30-5:30pm in the parking lot of Sunset Station. Budget charged the insurance company $1368 for a new one. Security cameras didn't cover anything further than about 30' from the doorway to the hotel.
On my personal truck, I keep the tailgate locked and the hoseclamp on the pivot socket now.

Installed my Pop n Lock, for this reason alone! Plus no more locking with a key anymore, love it!

When I bought my truck a salesman at the dealership warned me that they are theft targets especially with the camera. Said it was bout $4500 to replace. So I did the obvious thing and backed into something and creased my tailgate pretty good. There! I bet no one wants it now!
BTW the body shop estimated about $1500 to repair which included a new tailgate, paint to match and transfer camera and hardware etc. (did quote an after market tailgate not OEM)
