I keep mine locked. My friends normally complain and it's inconvenient. But not near as inconvenient as replacing it. My dad warned me of it a few years ago

I can understand stealing the F250 ones since they look great on the back of some F150s. Not that I'm promoting it at all ha

I'd be heated if someone took my tailgate.

Back in high school, someone would take all the tailgates off, and put them in the bed of a different truck. I didn't have a truck back then, so it was pretty comical to watch the kids trade tailgates after school hahah

An oem tailgate from a salvage yard for my last truck (95 ranger) can cost about $250 minimum. Tailgates are so easy to take off and walk away with. Just think about it, how long does it take one guy to remove a tail gate and walk away with it...

I had a friend that worked at a dealer and didn't believe that the tailgates were easy to steal. me and another guy bet him $50 each that we could remove 40 tailgates between the both of us in 5 minutes. long story short, my buddy and I were easily $100 richer after that 5 minutes.

That guy in the video posted above took agonizingly long to get that thing off.

If it took 10 minutes to remove with 3 people, everyone would be ticked. Ford did the right thing by making it easy and providing a lock. Just be smart and use it.

In the first video, he took it off with ease and fast. Then it look like he walked around looking for other stuff. Is is a shame too.
