That's why I installed an actuator in mine that auto-locks it, whenever you press the lock button on the key fob!! Much easier than have to walk back there and put the key in. I don't know why this is not a feature?

Actuator the way to go.....
I bought my actuator from eBay two years ago for $10, took me about 40 mins. to install and has been securing me for the last two years with NO problem (beats $500 + paint) and frustration !!!

Use a hose clamp around the right side pivot point. It's not 100% infallible but the idea is to make the thieves work just a bit harder. They'll move on rather than spend the time to loosen up the hose clamp.
A bit more protection for less than $1.00

Thanks all for the comments. Have any of you taken yours off before? It seems like it would be heavy as all get out.

I don't lock my tailgate or have it secured anyway. If they would have stole something it would have been my bed cover which used still goes for $300-$500.
Scrap metal.
They are making the demand by stealing them, some go off to junkyards, others gets scraped but at the end the people that had them stolen will need to replace them.

Yeah this is definitely not a new problem. About ten years ago we 4 taken in our fenced but not gated parking lot at work in broad daylight with a guard sleeping 30yds away. Of course that was in Detroit, they come up with new crimes there on a daily basis.
