Auto makers-why not offer more options?

Persistance Is A Bitch
It’s why I got a Lariat. I could only get certain options on Lariat or higher, so I chose the Lariat.
I’m pretty certain that the options are about the only reason folks choose a higher trim...because they are willing to pay the higher price to get those features. Maybe I misunderstood what you were trying to say.
My local dealer has about twice as many XLT’s as they do the Lariat trim.

Check this out:

One thing I learned is that in the first year for a new vehicle model, certain features are offered as "standard". Once the model gains acceptance in successive years, those same feature become "options".

This is a pet peeve of mine.
Why not start out with a basic truck model and let the customers add whatever the hell options they want.
Oh i see the various trim models each with their own unique options is to optimize profits. Maybe and then again maybe not.
How much does it cost Ford and other auto manufacturer's to design, procure and stock all these different part numbers depending on trim.
Take front end grills and tail gates for example, why so many different one's per any given year?
I'm sure the bean counters figured it all out.
Its probably a parts number forecasting procurement issue also for building the various trim levels with their proprietary options.
It is what it is, so us consumers have to live with it.

The tech options and stuff should be available on more trims but I don't want to see an xlt equipped level truck have a platinum grille and tailgate, the unique trim identifiers like leather stitched dash, cross stitching on seats and aesthetics should stay on the higher trimmed trucks but there's no reason a 50k xlt shouldn't get led headlights lol.

The annoyingly genius part is the incremental step changes. The "it's only $10 more dollars" mentality can be very expensive.

Ford builds what it can sell. If your truck/vehicle doesn't have some feature you want, ADD IT. Broncos weren't made with power seats, heated seats, a keyless entry pad on the door, dimming compass temperature rear-view mirror, automatic headlights, projector headlights, rear disk brakes, aimable map lamps, BT radio, radio controls on the steering wheel, USB charging ports, switchable cigar sockets, cornering lamps, gas hood lifts, 1-touch windows, roof rack, heated memory side mirrors, cargo tie-downs, a power inverter, a 130A alternator, an on-board air compressor & tank, an electric radiator fan, storage bumpers (strong enough to actually bump), a winch, a grill guard, front recovery points, a vault, a Class IV hitch receiver, a trailer battery current limiter, an anti-wrap bar, polyurethane suspension bushings, grab handles, a low-fuel light, a fuel pump reset light, a tailgate latch light, parking sensors, a fuel pump access hole, or a cooling/heating floor console. And only a few were made with turn signal mirrors, dual batteries, quad sun visors, a working oil pressure gauge, sliding side windows, or CB. But I wanted those things, so I added them (and a few other little tweaks).
Many of them are factory Ford parts scavenged from JYs across the country, but some are other brands, some are aftermarket, and some are my own design/construction.
The point is: if Ford doesn't offer what you want, don't waste your time envying or whining - do it, or find someone who can. I always like to BEGIN with a Ford because it's closest to what want, but that doesn't mean it has to STAY a factory Ford vehicle.
