Default Auto Dimming Side Mirror 2018 XLT 302A

I have a 2018 XLT 302A with existing auto dimming rear view mirror. Does anyone know if there is additional wiring needed to get a side mirror from a 2016 XLT to auto dim?

Female pins for C pillar

The harness I made from simple automotive wire, oem plug WPT1294, female pins to plug directly into the headliner harness (in previous photos). The mirror itself is BU5A-17E678-LA which I purchased on eBay for $50. I hooked it up today and it all worked.

The fact is is it took a lot of research of wiring diagrams etc, and I was carful making the harness. You only need five wires if you plan to dim your outside mirror too, three otherwise. So the wpt1294 has 16 wires, I used a jewelers screwdriver to remove the unused pins so it would be neat. I also kept the pigtails flat to the point at which the ar soldered to the longer wires. The makes it fit nicely under the headliner.
Hey guys, I'd rather revive an old thread with most of the info in it, rather than start a new one. I'm looking to do this mod soon but getting conflicting part numbers for the rear view mirror, itself.

Post by tbsheets used BU5A-17E678-LA. I'm currently in a rental 2019 f150 xlt with the Auto dim mirror and the back shows part number fu5a17e678va. And when looking on tasca for my 2017 f150 xlt, I'm getting part number BU5Z-17700-D. Are these all the same part but just superceding each other?

Any clarification would help. No matter which one I go with, I'm going to get on eBay with the plug in it already hopefully and build my harness from that. I already have the 22 pin Auto dim/ fold/ blinker/ spots from a lariat if that info helps. Thank you again for your help

It’s more than likely the same part. They just changed the prefix for various model years. Mine came off a wrecked Ford Explorer that had the same part number for F150

Just make sure you test everything before you clip the mirror in place. They are not easy to get back off unless you have the proper tool.

I was actually pleased to do this upgrade as my SCREW STX did not come with heated or auto dimming mirrors. Forum members helped me get this done.

The 2019 mirror is more than likely a different part as it will have a camera/sensor to work with the pre-collision assist w/active emergency braking which is standard on all trims of the 2019 F150

Thank you for bringing that up. I will either go with the part number mentioned in the original thread or one for a 2017

May I ask what year is your SCREW STX? Mine is 2019 w/o auto dimming but does have a sensor for pre-collision assist. Dealer told me they can change to auto-dimming mirror for $599 so I am sure it is feasible. Of course I don't want pay that much so just wondering if the wiring is same or even easier.
