Attention Seafoam Gurus and Consumers
Ok guys so tonight I finally decided to Seafoam my 05 w/ 50k miles. My results were rather disappointing. I know the engine is young and all but it has this ticking noise ( kind of like a small diesel noise) and I was hoping it was just stuck lifter rings, if it's the cam phasers I might cry a little. haha but anyways I did half the can in the brake booster vacuum line and half in my crankcase (yes I am planning on changing my oil very soon so don't freak out) and let the truck sit for nearly an hour. I went to fire the truck up and the first time it wouldn't turn over. My second attempt resulted in the truck hesitating then firing up. It idled rough for maybe 10 seconds. No smoke came out of my dual tails although some liquid did come out the tails. I took the truck for a spin and hossed it pretty good. I noticed no difference whatsoever while driving and the ticking is still there.
So basically what I am pondering is did I do something wrong? and did this help my motor whatsoever? and is this product a snake oil gimmick?
any opinions on what's going on would be appreciated, I am kind of worried about this motor and it's past

Seafoam is not going to quiet the tick. You are more than likely a victim of junk cam phasers. My 05's sounded like a diesel till last weekend when i replaced both sides. Truck is great now.

i think what you are trying to fix cannot be fixed out of a can. seafoam works very well for cleaning injectors. i never tryed it in the oil or the vacuum system, but i am sure it works there as well. when you have internal engine issues you can't expect something from a can to solve it.

well I switched to full synthetic valvoline which Blackbetty said fixed his ticking.
Are the cam phasers hurting my performance? I get pretty bad mpg 12 in town avg. and the truck just feels sluggish. The ticking gets worse and louder as it revs.
How much will it cost to have it fixed and what will the benefit be?

Both of my cam phasers were broken, and the truck starting revving high when i started and sorta rough at stop lights. Runs smooth and quiet now and i average around 16ish and sometimes get 17. I had a ford mechanic do it on the side for me, cost about 300 for parts, and i spent 400 on labor. Well worth it, and i didn't have to do the job for once.
