Attention female truck owners!

Why does one always have to expect compensation for something? What happened to giving someone a hand just because its the nice helpful thing to do. That's what is wrong with today's society, no one ever helps anyone without expecting something in return.
Where are the good old days I heard my grandpa and his friends talk about?

This thread is great. About 1/2 way through the first page, my thought was "Gee, these guys are gonna feel pretty dumb if Chris is a woman" because when I read the original post, I believed Chris was female, not male. Glad she chimed in on p.2 to clarify that.
As for the rest, well, the responses indicate multiple trends & assumptions; perhaps some other PhD candidate can do their thesis on that.
OLDPHD - Good luck with your research. And this is certainly a novel (well, maybe not so novel these days) way of soliciting input.

Interesting responses! Just a few clarifications. First, I am a "she." Second, I am an old graduate student, hence the user name "OLDPHD." I am a native Detroiter, and in my past life, wrote car commercials for Buick and GMC truck. I am pursuing a PhD because it allows me to research and publish on a topic that is of particular importance to me.
Seeing your past history in writing commercials, i think this thesis is totally relevant. I am positive manufacturers are looking for ways to tap into the female pickup truck market. Just look at what chevy did last year with their advertisements that were geared to women. IMO, that campaign bombed and studies like this will help them tap into that market better. The same basis of the study can be used to examine men that buy minivans.
Good luck with the study, I am sure you'll get interest.

Makes me sad as a dude! No reason to bash somebody for furthering there education. And who cares what they are going to school for. They are paying for it and doing what they like. Good luck OP. I would be interested in the results.

If OLDPHD receives no compensation ($$$$$ either directly or indirectly), I'm sure that folks don't/won't have a problem. Don't know if you realize it, but both time and information are worth money (even if it's a stipend).
They're still here it's just some folks tire of handouts to panhandlers ESPECIALLY when they make more.

If I were female I'd help you out op. I've been through grad school and it is stressful. But I had the good sense to stop at a masters before I lost my mind!

You say you are trying to reach 'owners'... what about co-owners? Or are you referring to primary drivers? My wife is not the primary driver, but does drive when she needs/wants to.

I wouldn't be surprised if we had a member or two who dress up like women... does that work?
