Anyone else surprised that the new F-150 didn't win Motor Trend's TOTY?

Like it or lump it, the new F-150 was an innovative new truck design. It performed well, rode well and yet lost to the re-designed 2015 Chevrolet Colorado. Sure, the Colorado was pretty much a relaunch, but after all the coverage the new F-150 has been getting, I was totally expecting Ford to take home the honour. Anyone else?

These are the same folks that pick a VW over the new mustang as COTY- 'nuff said.....

Does it really matter. There is more than a good chance that the best selling truck will remain the best selling truck no matter what Motor Trend says.

this is clearly Ford's fault. They didn't slip MT enough money to buy the award.

It's a misconception.......GM's got the title for that, unfortunately.
F-Series is an all inclusive of Light Duty, Heavy Duty, and Medium commercial duty and that is the best selling COMBINED VS the competition.
Keep in mind Ford shot their own foot for 2015's reclamation of the F150 best seller title being out several months late while GM is selling. It's already a given that Ford's F150 won't take that title back til MAYBE 2016.....if they're lucky.

AFAIK F150 sales have always surpassed other 1/2 ton trucks except for a couple of years if you combined the Silverado and Sierra sales. But if you count a single model of pickup I believe it has always been the leader.

Hang on,
I'm looking for the very specific detailed graphic on 2013's Half Ton truck sales to show you. Ford does some nifty PR work on the nomenclature to ALWAYS cite "F-series" over Silverado-Sierra to confuse people. That's not strictly Half Ton pickups......
Found it, here ya go. GM owns the Half Ton market with Silverado/Sierra combined.
