After Market Navigation Systems

You would think that being that the nav unit is third party, that there would be cheaper map updates, but apparently Ford licensed it exclusively now for their use only. Used to get them through another vendor, however, not worth it because they are never truly up to date.

I bought the A8 update for my truck for $75 Cdn off Ebay. Works fine...
I agree, my iphone is smoother and more accurate many times but as mentioned above, I love the larger screen.

A friend of mine just bought a new '17 Tundra about two weeks ago. During the negotiations he told them he wanted lifetime map updates for his factory nav system. They said OK, and installed a little chip in the dash somewhere. They may have just filled him full of BS to sell him the truck...but that's what he told me anyway.
I have a 7" NUVI that I use, which has lifetime updates for maps and traffic. I have thought for a few years now...that car dealerships have to compete with Garmins and phones with free updates or people will quit buying factory nav systems in vehicles. Why spend a grand on a factory nav system just to have to spend more money every year or so to update it...?
