After Market Navigation Systems

The type of head unit you listed can use google maps for free, you can tether it to you phone and stream music from anywhere, back up camera, youtube, netflix, anything you can do with an android phone. I just ordered something similar.
Don't let other scare you off. That being said do research on the different units. Some require a little work and some models are slower than others.

I did order it, gonna be here Monday. Earax, what unit did you purchase. I'm also thinking of doing a video of the install and posting it on youtube. Not enough videos with this type of system on youtube.

Yes, the system you linked is an Android system so everyone saying the maps on phones are better are misinformed. It will have the same maps as the phone will. Also it will have its own GPS antenna so it will still track you without cell service but the maps and street names may not load. I have a Pumpkin Android unit in my truck, I love the thing! I run my Torque Pro right on the head unit, have gps, and any other app I can fit in the limited storage. That is my only beef with the unit I have is the limited use of storage. My experience will be slightly different than most in here as I'm an 11th gen guy. Android head units should be the future for all aftermarket and car manufacture radios!

Here's some pic's of the navigation installed. Oh I also add two USB ports and two auxiliary in jacks. I had SYNC, but did away with it to add the USB's and Aux jacks. Oh and I also installed a backup camera.

From what I read on the Ford site, the Travel link is a 5 year subscription, regardless if you subscribe to Sirius. Since the build and price site is borked for the zip code today, at least for me, I found an article on Autotrader.
It says 2015, but looking at the options under B&P, it is still in effect.
Ford
announced that it will provide a complimentary 5-year subscription to SiriusXM Traffic and Travel Link for buyers of 2015 models equipped with navigation. The satellite-based services provide drivers with real-time information concerning traffic, weather, gas prices, sports scores, movie times and more.

I use both the onboard navigation in my truck and my cell phone.
I just updated the map SD card for $70...brand new....not the $180 or so that Ford is asking for. I'll use it for general navigation when I'm within the area of the street or place I want to find. Basically looking at street names coming up.
On my iPhone, I use Copilot Pro which downloads the maps for NA into the phone and is updated regularly throughout the year. It costs me $10 a year for that subscription but I don't need cell service to be able to use this excellent app. This is my go to nav setup for when we are in Hawaii...or mainland US etc where I need an accurate, up to date service. I only wish I could link that to my on board system to get a much smoother , more accurate navigation on a bigger screen. But....I'm happy with the way it is now.....I'll take it lol

Thanks! Based on your lead I was also able to confirm the 5 year subscription for Sirius traffic and travel links on both Ford and Sirius web pages.
So that resolves half my beef about NAV for 5 years. The other half of my beef is map updates. I confirmed with Ford's vendor that an update is not available for my new '17. The web page says updates are available for '15 and older. Thus, my map data is over 2 years old. This is completely unacceptable. First, data should be current when I bought the device. Secondly, there are a lot of changes in the highway network in that length of time, particularly in metro areas interstate interchanges. If unfamiliar, This data deficiency requires a user to rely on other Nav devices. Finally, they want something like $169 for one update. I paid a $50 premium to buy lifetime updates for my old Garmin gps.

My 14had MFT but no nav so I went and bought this.
it has lifetime map updates, traffic, and a dash cam. I still use it in my 16 even though it also has Nav and Traffic, but I like Travel Link for easy access to gas prices and weather. I found traffic alerts are useless in my area, and when I am in an area with traffic, it is usually out of date by the time I get there, and that is with both systems.

I love my little Garmin GPS (lifetime Maps) for long trips and phone GPS for tooling around town.

My garmin has lifetime map, and traffic, plus I have an aftermarket double din stereo that doesn't have navigation, but I find the sun on the screen would make it hard to see a nav screen.... so I was glad I cheaped out and didn't go with nav.
