That's actually a very good price compared to what people are asking for f150s around here.

Ok but think about this you buy this truck take it down the road and drive it for a month and the engine goes theirs well over 3500 in parts and labor. So you get it fixed two months go by and bam trans goes out of it now your in the hole. What iam trying to say is it to much money and to many miles. This is my opinion.

Check the following:
  • Ball joints, known to last only about 100,000 miles
  • Catalytic converters, same
  • Transfer case motor, notorious for going bad
  • 4wd solenoids near the battery, also notorious for going bad. If they have the rain cover, they have already been replaced
  • All COPs, also notorious for going bad
  • Tires

Replace the following immediately after buying:
  • All filters
  • All spark plugs
  • All fluids, and I mean ALL

Default Thanks for the help

Thank you guys for the advice. I am going to look at the truck over the weekend and check for sludge, and the timing tensioner and guides. If everything looks good ill be buying and putting on the road Monday. These were some helpful tips. Thanks a lot guys.

97-03's are death traps.

Even if the truck did have problematic plugs, don't you think they would have been changed prior to going to the moon?

if you don't buy it I will my 01 2v 5.4 had 367,257mi miles on it and I STILL sold it for $2250 that was about 8 months ago and as far as I know the trucks still going.... oh and it was ALL ORIGINAL

my 2003 f150 5.4 2v has 190,000 mi and I'm not afraid to do anything I have replaced the rear end due to a stupid mistake on my behalf but its got the original trans and motor

... and these trucks are not death traps by any means so whoever said that is just being a dick head I'd buy it in a heartbeat but I'd talk him down to $3000 just so you feel like you won

Well, Kx...
DID you GET IT?!? We've been waiting for yearsss to find out, the OTHER half of the story.

Mine got overheated, thanks to to the PO, and a head gasket slooowly failed, at 285k. Getting gas one day I asked the F150 ahead of me, "400k+." It was loaded - a true work(ed) truck. Truck guys do their oil changes, *whether they need it or not.* Mine gets light use, so I only use good Synth (which is a blend, UNLESS tbey say Full Synth,) or true Full Synth and a good filter withing spec distance by Ford. And I drain and drain. Pour 2-4 oz new in and replace the drain plug when clean comes out. ONCE or twice with a new-to-me engine I add SeaFoam to the crankcase with cheaper oil and drain when dirty which is usually 500-2000 miles. It's ok in gas too.

There WAS a 3.21 or such rear. Now 3.35(?) is the lowest. I have that. But moving from 16" 235 to 17" 265's makes me like 3.01. This can yield 16-20 mph hwy at 60-65. Sooo smooth on a good road at 75-90... lol!
PS: And I supposedly lise 1mpg as it's a 4x4.

He brought it to the mechanic and had it gone threw everything is fine and has 4 brand new tires put on. The only thing that has me skeptical is it has 235k. I can buy it for 3500 plus tax. I hear the 5.4 are bulletproof. I'm wondering if it is worth it or if I should wait for something better. I'm really eager to get a nice truck like that. But I also don't want to sacrifice on reliability. I'm always on this site reading, and there seems to be a lot of knowledgeable people. So I decided to finally sign up and get some advice.
Btw what's the gas mileage like haha?

Well, Bill, the OP hasn’t been here since 2015. Maybe shoot him off a DM instead? If he has email alerts turned on, he may respond. That’s not a given.
