Default Adding sound deadening to inside of tailgate

Ive noticed on GM trucks and my dads 99 Superduty that when you close the tailgate it sounds solid and quiet. My 13 f150 and my old Ranger did not, they have nothing on the inside and they produce that hollow, tinny sheetmetal sound and I want to address that. Has anyone ever added a Dynamat type product or spray-on deadening to the tailgate via the access panel? If so how much did you add to make shutting the tailgate sound nice and solid? Are the spray-on products effective or is Peel-n-Seal/Dynamat better? If dynamat is much better, Im hoping you dont have to cover the entire thing b/c that would be a PITA.

I have been planning on putting some in mine, probably in a few weeks. Also, something seems to rattle in there when you shut it.
