Access Adarac Rack & Bakflip (VP) Compatability
New to forum and looking for some help understanding how well the Access Adarac ladder rack and the Bakflip (VP) tonneau cover would work together. I have searched this forum and others and have found related posts but most reference the Bakflip being tricky to open but works or some referenced having the rack on order but no post after it was installed to inform how well it worked. I called Agricover directly today to ask about the compatibility of their rack with Bakflip covers and they were very polite but told me they really didn't know if there would be issues. The potential issue I see is opening the Bakflip panels and getting the cover past the angled rear supports and for that matter how it might rest against the front angled support once fully opened - would I still be able to use the prop rods to hold it in the fully opened position. Also if I had the rear ladder rack supports moved a bit forward would that create more of an issue getting the Bakflip opened up.
I know that Bakflip makes the CS rails & rack system but seems a bit pricey and the Adarac seems to be reasonably priced and has good reviews relative to build quality and appearance. Any help on this would be greatly appreciated so I could order the Adarac with confidence or find another better option to go with. Thanks for your help! |
Did you find this thread? Just installed Adarac rack w/ Bakflip.
Here's what RaoulDuke101 said about opening it: "Once installation was complete, I tried to open the bakflip cover. At first I couldn't do it, because the first panel hit the rack uprights when I tried to flip it up. However, after fiddling with it a bit, I discovered that I could still open the bakflip, but I had to kind of slide the second panel forward a bit and open it like an accordian. It turns out that the bakflip is actually now more secure, because a thief would have to fiddle with it a while before figuring out how to open it. " |

" I'm really hoping to find someone that has had this combination working for some time. I would like to be able to leverage the flexibility of adjusting the position of the supports as well to use a Yakima Spacecase that I have but I'm thinking if the back support is moved any closed to the middle of the bed it will only make the issue of getting the cover open past the angles supports worse. I remain reluctant to buy the Adarac until I can identify what all issues I will have with the Bakflip. I spoke with AgriCover (Adarac Manufacturer) tech support yesterday and they could not tell me 100% how they would work together but recommended against it and I also worked with a RealTruck.com customer service rep (great service btw!) who reached out to Bakfip for dimensions, etc and recommended against it. I know those folks will usually error on the cautious side which is why I'd love to hear from some folks that have actually used them together to see if the setup is worth dealing with the related issues. Thanks! |
Well, this may be a sin, but here's a thread in a Dodge forum (Don't hit me!) where a person put an Adarac and a Bakflip on a Ram.
If you go with the spacecase route, remember that both ends of the Adarac are adjustable. You could move the forward support backward, so the rear support can remain at the end. Of course, this would keep you from completely folding up the cover. Also, here's a thread that includes posts from a truck owner who installed an Adarac with a Peragon tonneau cover. (The posts are most of the way down the page). Maybe it can help you with your decision. I wish I could give you more certainty, but I can't. But I hope that some more folks who have tried this combination chime in. |

I have gone out to the Dodge Ram forum post you mentioned and asked for an update on how this combination is working together. I had to register on the forum to post so I hope I don't loose privileges here! :) Really like to looks of the Adarac and would love to figure out how to make this combination work! |
Sorry to resurrect a really old thread, but I'd thought this would be useful. I searched for hours with no definitive answer on whether or not the adarac racks would fit with a bakflip VP. I took the plunge after getting advice from member FX4_2014F150 that it would fit to some extent. Just as he said, it does. You just need to move the rear tower all the way back towards the tailgate, along with the rail system. This provides just enough clearance for the first panel to fold back. It hits the weather stripping, buy clears the panel The last panel however will not be able to open all the way back and ready against the can of the truck to lock back. It goes up about vertically, before hitting the rack tower. I just modified the locking up system to keep it up at that position. I hope this helps anyone in this situation. I have a short bed in case that makes a difference. https://cimg5.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.f15...bc7df0648b.jpg

Does anyone know if the Adarac Aluminum (non-pro) has more clearance to work with the MX4 type covers?
