Emissions is the reason the first change (from 7.3L to 6.0L) happened and is also why the switch from 6.0L to 6.4L occurred. The 6.4L has the first generation of exhaust aftertreatment (DPF / regeneration). And again with the 6.7L which introduced a Urea/SCR (Selective Catalyst Reduction) system.

Other manufacturers have gone through similar progressions in technology as well. Volkswagen diesels have a very similar progression in terms of diesel technology. An uncanny similarity, in fact. If you've ever worked on a 6.7L then see a VW 2.0L TDI or 3.0L TDI, you'll be in very familiar territory (Bosch). The exhaust system evolutions are also nearly identical in terms of their end results.

If a Prius wasn't so ugly I would drive one strictly to work and back every day!! Save miles on my truck and only have to buy gas in the car once a month haha

If I had a Prius, I'd trade it in on another F150.

The 6.0 was a complete and total POS, the 6.4 ran a lot better but it still isn't all that reliable. I loved the 7.3L it was reliable, fuel efficient and ran extremely well. I enjoyed driving my friend's 95 F-350 with a chipped 7.3L, that truck ran like a beast and those engines lasted forever when maintained. I know a guy that owns an excavating business and he had 2 F-350 trucks with the 6.4L and they were constantly in the shop for repairs like blown turbos, radiator issues, transmission issues, etc.

I'd rather save the money on gas and dump that into accessories for my f series.

Same happens with farm equipment, they have to come out with new models every few years to keep up with emissions garbage. Ever heard how much a DPF costs(Deere and Cat)? Or how much urea a combine can use on a long day (brands other than Deere and Cat)? It's ridiculous and the disputes on which is better are worse than ecoboost vs. 5.0 threads

Red vs green. Whatever gets the job done. Hell if it works it can even be pink
