Default 50 inch light bar mount?

Does anybody know what the process is to mount a 50 inch light bar on my 05. i have a buddy who works at a weld shop so he can make the mounts, the only problem is he thinks I'm going to have to drill into my roof. Can anybody confirm this or is there another way? Thanks for the help!

you do have to drill and rivet into the a pillar, but its better than through the roof. the mounts wrap around the pillar and get secured to the flat part behind the weatherstrip.
