3.73 if you can find them, especially if you are putting on larger & heavier tires

Get whatever and re-gear to 4.10 or 4.30 with those tires.

Default Hello! I have question. Thanks for your attention

hello! Greetings! One question... I have a 2006 fx4 5.4 with a ratio of 3.73. Recently I had to change the pcm, but when configuring it I had the error of selecting 3.55 as the ratio. Will I have any problem if I keep that configuration? And if so, what would they be? In advance, thank you very much for your attention. 👍

juanm.adlp...
  • Speedometer (and any associated readings thereof - e.g. miles, MPG) will be off by +5%.
  • Transmission shift points.

Sorry, but I am not very expert in relation to transmission shift points, what effect would this do specifically? that felt heavier in acceleration? for instance. And if so, any other signs or symptoms? Thanks for advance

Since the wheels' RPM (Revolutions Per Mile) would be increased, the transmission's shift points would be off by -5% of the PCM's scheduled engine's RPM (Revolutions Per Minute) shifts. meaning: The shifts will be earlier.

My only hauling will be on weekends when I go hunting or fishing which only involves a 4wheeler on a 5 by 8 trailer and the boat would be an 18 foot fiberglass. Other than that I won't haul much of anything else. Considering tire size and workload what would you guys recommend? Im leaning toward getting the 5.0L v8 because im old school. haven't ruled out the 3.5L v6 yet though.

Also, I have noticed that it is very hard to find a truck with 3.73 on a lot in Mississippi, tons of 3.55.. not sure why. Anyone know why that is?
Larger, heavier tires and towing with the top heavy (not a ton of low or mid range) 5.0?

More gear.

But buying used, as long as it's not a terrible gear, I don't think you can use 3.55 vs 3.73 to decide which used truck to buy, there will be multiple far more important factors

I ordered 3.73 rear with the 5.0L and am very happy. Stock tires on 18" wheels but know i have plenty of power to go big if I choose.
