Perhaps it's just because more people choose the 2.7 over the 3.5? If there are more 2.7s on the road, then there will be more used 2.7s on dealership's lots...

Went with the 3.5 only because I wanted the 157'' wheel base. If I could choose again, I'd probably go with the 2.7 and short box.

2016 xlt 2.7 - engine is a beast. dont waste your money on bigger if youre not towing more than 8000 lbs, just my opinion

if you're towing 6000lbs with a 2.7, you may be over payload or another rating. You'd be pushing it with 6000 or 7000lbs definitely. I'd say if you're towing more than 5000, get a different motor.

Remember the 2.7 frame is lighter than the 3.5eb and 5.0.

There's always a tow rating guy...

Also I've seen this claim a couple times and I'm gonna need a source or I'm chalking it up to urban legend. Why would Ford develop 3 different frames SPECIFICALLY for the 2.7? There's volume but that's a LOT of extra development and valuation work and I cannot fathom the market case for either the pretty marginal cost save or economy numbers...

Also own a 3.5EB Lariat and I've got a 5.0 Lariat for a rental for the week.... sounds nice, but I miss the kick in the rear I get from the 3.5...

Are you saying that Ford built a completely different frame, just for trucks with the 2.7?? Sounds foolish, no wonder these trucks cost so much. I also heard the 157” 3.5EB gets a whole different heavy duty frame too.
That makes me assume the 3.3L probably has a different frame? How many frames are there? Inquiring minds want to know.

My mindset when buying a new vehicle has been to get the most powerful engine for the price point you are held to (unless there is a known issue that would deter you) The cost difference is so minimal <$2000 why would you not just get the 3.5? I would suspect the larger engine helps with resale value as well so in the event you did sell the truck, you probably recoup that cost differential anyways.

They are probably both good engines for what they are rated, but when the pricing is so close I don't see the reason to get the smaller engine.

The frame thing is all over the towing section. Otherwise who can explain why the payloads are lower?
