2wd or 4wd

Another one from up North, this time NW Ontario.
I've had my truck since April and haven't needed 4x4 yet - but I WILL want to use it over winter. For work I drive a RWD E250 which is OK on the highways in winter but as soon as I try and go anywhere slushy or with soft snow, it struggles and has got stuck. Before we got the F-150, we had an old Jimmy 4x4 which had no issues in similar circumstances.
Also, around town in winter, 4x4 makes pulling out of junctions so much easier. 2wd needs a lot more thought/bravery when pulling out across traffic.

I'm about 4hrs West of you in Dryden. Been here for almost 2 years - since arriving from the UK. Didn't need 4x4 there.
My regional office is in T-Bay but I rarely get there.
