I thought I was in the 2004-2008 F150 section so my post above may not work for a 2014.

I had Sprinter for work, the key was 600, and it had to be overnighted to Atlanta to be programed. On some new vehicles if you try to use the key without getting it programed, it assumes you're trying to steal it and locks the pcm so it can't be driven.

Best thing to do is buy and extra (when you have 2 already) and get it cut and program it yourself. I have done this with each of my last three vehicles. I buy a FOB/Key off Ebay (1 or 2 vendors I deal with) usually for about half what you do from the dealer. I do this as soon as I buy the vehicle. This way I have the 2 keys that came with it so I can get the key cut by a locksmith for around $35 and then I can program the chip/FOB with the other 2 keys I have. I then take one of them and put in in my safe.

Now, if I lose/break/destroy one accidentally I have 2 to repeat the process all over. I never have to buy one from the dealer or pay their stupid rates to get it programmed.

Sooooo for the OP, if you buy 1 off ebay go ahead and get 2. This way you can get 1 programmed, program the 2nd on your own and never have to have the dealer or a locksmith program 1 again. This can save you quite a bit.

^ Agreed.
$21 for a new Key fob F150 Key uncut off Ebay.

I avoid the dealer for just about everything because the prices are straight up extortion for rookies
Do your own legwork, and get the stuff for fractions of the cost and DIY.

If so, I'd talk to them about that $250!
We had asked about the 2nd key, was told they would look for it. Then they couldn't find it they had me get a quote from Ford and then I handed it to them. They told me a few days later no they wouldn't pay.
Then I decided I needed a 2nd key and was going to pay the $160 ( I have $115 store credit w Ford) went in and told the parts kid I wanted the key, he said which one and I said one w remote. ( when I was in there the week before getting the quote he new I did not have a 2nd key) then he says $160 for the key and cut and then I need a service appointment and would have to pay an $90 more lol. I told him that I do parts (heavy equipment) and he was full of it and I think I called him a rookie lol
I then got into a discussion w some manager at Nissan, caught him lying in front of people in getting there cars serviced and called him out on it. Decided I better leave before I did something bad. My wife then called down there and got the GM's name , I then went back, found him told him what went on and told that's the guy who tried BS'n me as he walked by lol he told me go get my key made n bring him the receipt. We will see if he stands by his word. If not I will go stand out front and let potential customers know my story lol

Yep they just don't build them like they used to.

One day there won't be keys anymore. Just expensive fobs.

You already see the push buttons in lots of cars now.

Then they will really have us all by the *****.

We have some 6 y/o 2 ton trucks in our fleet with the fob you just wave in front of a spot on the dash and it starts so the tech is far from new. I'm actually surprised they haven't implemented it yet for pup's and passenger cars.

ALWAYS ALWAYS ALWAYS get this in writing when buying a new vehicle. If its in writing that they will provide a second key free of charge, there's not much a dealership can go back on there. I'd bet you made a verbal agreement with a salesman, which carries about as much merit as your word vs his word.....

Very true!
We did it on a verbal.
So the conclusion is I went to a local locksmith, they were able to program a key, they had to hook up a computer thing for about 10 minutes. Key works fine, came out to $169
Took the receipt over to the GM at the Nissan dealer and they are cutting me a check
