I've been OCD'n out on the research the past week and still not totally sure. Definitely feel a little more comfortable about the 5.0 for my needs though then before.

It seems like I would be okay with the 5.0 for my Towing needs and in just regular daily driving compared to the EcoBoost I could probably deal with the power difference.
seems like not many people go from EcoBoost to a 5.0 it always seems like it's the other way around for the most part

I've test drove a few 2nd gen 3.5 ecoboost, they were nice but I wasn't blown away by them... I guess that could be partially because I'm coming from two tuned EcoBoost tgough

I have a 2018 5.0 with 10 speed with 3.31s with the trailer tie package (no max tow). Came from a 2015 2.7. I tow about 5000 lbs every weekend. No issues to date. The transmission shifts smooth and stays at 6-7th gear when climbing.

Very nice! Out of curiosity do you happen to tow much in high elevation and/or through mountains?

It will tow differently, but once you get used to it you wont notice much other then it will run at a higher rpm and you will lose a bit of power as you climb. It will sound better if that matters to you. 2018 is a good year for ford truck engines, the 10 speed plus the new gen 5.0, second gen 3.5 and the 2.7 are all great choices depending on what you want.

Thanks for your reply and input! Sounds pretty much exactly like the conditions /weight I'll be towing in occasionally.

Thanks, interesting article.
I will look for more in the future and yes, keeping an eye on these beasts for issues as they age. When I started my journey for a new truck I initially tried to find another 5.0. My 2011 was worry free but knowing we would be doing much more travel I opted to buy something new. There weren’t a lot of 5.0’s available. A couple of drives in the newer designed 3.5 and 10 speed really helped with the final decision. Extended warranty was also part of the purchase as I knew any expenditure would likely pay for the extra bucks.
