Looking to buy a one-year old, less that 20K miles, crew cab, 4x4-not long bed. Hubby says no V-8. Which 6-cylinder Ecoboost is best?

If I had to choose one for a full size pick up with a crew cab, it would have to be the 3.5. Why does he not want a v-8? If it's because of gas mileage the eco's are not that much better.

Do you know the mileage for 4x4, crew cab with a V-8? Too much in-town driving, so that might be why the 3.5

What are you going to be using the truck for?
Asking what engine to get on here is mostly a waste of time IMO, its basically people recommending what they have or how they had a bad experience with one and now think every one of those engines is garbage... I would just test drive all three and pick the one you like the best barring any drastic requirement for one or the other. .

The reason I said 3.5 is because I think the 2.7 is a little small for a full size 4x4 crew cab. It's only 165cu.in. Of course that is my personal opinion, and everyone else can do as they see fit.

As per your description, the 2.7 fits the bill perfectly. it has more horsepower and torque than the 5.4 V8 ever had and gets substantially better fuel economy. If I didn't tow 7000+ lbs around, it would be my choice.

No experience with the 3.5L. I just purchased a 2018 V8 4x4 crew cab. Local driving I get 17.5 mpg. Highway I can get 21-21 mpg if I keep it around 65. Yesterday on the NJ turnpike doing 80 up and back I averaged 17.6. I have auto-start stop engaged and normal mode. Had it a month or so. I don't think you can go wrong with either.

But not the 5.0L V8 the OP is asking about. 3.5L wins on torque, but not HP vs the 2018 5.0L.

Get the 2.7. Peppy as all get-out & with the new 10-speed tranny's, I hear it gets 19-20mpg all around
(my 2015 2.7 got 17ish. my 2018 3.5 is at 17.16 over 23k, no towing, no lead foot).
For your needs, hauling just a small boat here & there & using it as a daily driver, the 3.5 is overkill & would probably have slightly higher maintenance costs over the life of the motor.
2.7 all the way.
