2016 F150 Ecoboost ....and now I have to buy a CatchCan?
I will freely and gladly admit that I don't know SQUAT about trucks so please be cool:
I had a 2016 F150 V6 3.whatever L. with eco-boost delivered to my husband for his birthday while I was out of town on business thinking that I really knocked it out of the ballpark with that surprise and that I should be good (because at their price point: I SHOULD HAVE BEEN GOOD!!!).
Then DH sends me a link to a $450-500 contraption that we apparently NEED?
Before I buy said contraption I need to know from an unbiased angle: Do we really need an oil catch can that's like $500 or does a better priced catch can do a fine job? **I'm not looking to cheap out- but just dying inside that before driving it any real amount we need to buy something so that the new truck I worked so hard at getting doesn't basically self destruct...?
If it's for sure needed: best brand at decent price-point?
Anyone have kind input to offer? Sorry I'm not super technical- just trying to be a cool wife and handle everything for DH but not knowing anything about this topic makes it really hard to research...
Thanks in advance!

A lot of hype about catch cans mostly from people selling catch cans. I had 2011 eco, no catch can, no problem. have a 2015 eco, no catch can, no problem.

While there may...reiterate...MAY be some reduction in long term carbon build up on the valves, there is absolutely no need to rush out and buy a catch can. 99.9+% of ecoboost engines never have one installed. Lots of fully functional ecos out there with lots of miles on them. Spend the money on timely maintenance including oil changes with quality oil and filters and you'll be far better served.

No need to buy snake oil.....Just because the guy selling it says you need it.

Properly broken in engine is all that's needed.

I have a 2011 FX4 3.5 ecoboost that I bought new and have never had a problem with the motor. You did great by buying the best truck with a great engine. No catch needed. Just drive it and enjoy it.

Need? Nope. But they are functional in catching oil/water/gunk before PCV fumes are recirculated into the intake. They will help with the overall longevity of engine life. IF they were absolutely necessary Ford would have engineered a factory one.
