Default 2015 KR F150 now vs 2017 Raptor later

Hi all,

I'm in serious contemplation about getting a new truck in exchange for my current 2006 KR F150 which has 88k miles. I am currently torn about ordering one of the 2015s now or waiting until the 2017 raptor comes out, reportedly in the fall of 2016.

I'm interested to know what other users here would do and what you expect in differences of cost? The build I created of the KR currently amounts to 64k MSRP without rebates/discount.

just my .02, but the price for the raptor will match the hype. since you asked, id buy a 2015 and build it better than a raptor since it sounds like you wouldn't mind doing so having money into your KR. plus if you want to be one of the first with the new raptors, you'll be one of the first to deal with the bugs ford doesn't get worked out in time. good luck with your decision and remember its important to spend the money on what you'll be happy with not us

Are you looking for a luxury truck or a hardcore off-road vehicle? The choice should be obvious, those two models aren't really marketed to the same crowd.

Either would suit me fine. Would add additional off-road capabilities to the KR (lift kit, tires, etc).

Although, yes, I do not believe I would use the raptor to its full abilities.

Is your 2006 still good? If so, can you wait for two more years? Another factor to look is the current value of your 2006 versus two years later? I traded in my 2007 knowing it had 17k value before it plummet down once it hits 100k and reach 10 years old, and needing a better tow vehicle with EcoBoost and the MaxTow.

It's a lot easier to do that than it would be to class up the raptor interior to KR/platinum territory.

My 2006 is still running good, yes. It's blue book value is 16-18k in fair condition. It does have some hail damage and repairs which will lower the trade in value some - I think I could realistically get 14-15k to trade it in today.

"Class up" the Raptor interior....never heard that one before. Stay classy...

Personally IMHO.....

Unless you are using the Raptor for it's intended purpose, it's an attention ***** vehicle like a Mercedez. The Suburbian "Bling bling look at me" buyers that never truly use the truck for it's intended purpose or potential.

SO (rhetorically speaking) if you are honest with yourself, then decide what you really want it for. I know the outgoing model was the slowest F150 on the lot......but this one will be different, and it is definitely attractive. My 28 year old cousin is saving for one.....no house, no responsibilities, he's nuts.

However, is it REALLY worth getting raped over those features if you won't use them ?? Be honest with yourself.

That same logic absolutely applies to the 2015 he's also considering.

Everything else nickbar said was spot on. You will face the 1st year hype markups and no vaseline booty rapin. I would advise against both options personally. Wait for at least 2016 to buy another F150 and do it on the year end closeouts for maximum incentives/rebates.

Also, paying $64,000 for a light duty pickup is not just insane, it's straight up insanely retarded when you can get an XLT 4x4 supercrew after years end clearance for close to $30,000. Ask yourself what bling bling interior options validate doubling the cost of a Supercrew 4x4. (My truck is my avatar for <$40K)

IF you REALLY have your heart set on the KR , just pay an interior shop to update the interior of a lower costing model. My .02.....and I almost bought a KR F350 myself so, sometimes you gotta step back and say WTF was I thinking. They make far more $$$ on the markup options......for obvious reasons.

The "buy it and make it better than a raptor" is an extreme common misconception. To have the same capabilities as a raptor, budget yourself 5k at least in suspension work. Denver springs, fox 2.5 front and rear external resi shocks, upgraded UCA's... ETC. unless youre talking about just crappy spacer leveling kits with some big wheels.. then get a KR
