Was 2015 a good year for the ford F-150 5.0

I think in the real world, on a dyno, the 2018 is putting down about 20-30 more horsepower than the 2015 model.
However, the 2015 model is bulletproof and doesn't use any direct fuel injection, so a guy could buy one of those, put a good tune in it, and have a truck that's equally as strong as the 2018 with no fears of issues later down the road.

2015 5.0 is a solid motor, very low failure rate, good, user-friendly power delivery.
2018 5.0, new motor with dual-injection, not really 'proven' (although I would hazard a guess it will be great).
2018 5.0 is also tied to the 10-speed, which is a sweet touch.
Easy comparison....slightly more power lol

The OP only asked about the 2015 not a comparison to the current engine. Sounds like he is shopping a used 5.0 and wants to know about the reliability. The 2015 is an all new truck on a new platform but the 5.0 and 6-speed are a carry over powertrain. The 5.0 is proven engine and part of the modular V8 family which dates back to the early '90's. The 5.0 (really it's 4.9 but 5.0 has a heritage) is bored out 4.6. The engineers used the DOHC 4.6 V8 from the Mustang Cobra as the starting point for the 5.0; which itself started as the 32V Intech V8 from the Lincoln Mark 8 in 1993. It's a strong reliable engine with a proven track record.. The ZF designed 6R80 transmission is one of the best transmissions to come out of FOMCO. On early units the mechatronic unit was prone to break but the transmission itself has a low failure rate. Ford redesigned the mechatronics and removed the computer and electronics from inside the transmission and moved the electronic controls to the main PCM to improve reliability. They also addressed the harsh 1-2, 2-1 shifts in the same upgrade.

um his whole sentence was ‘how does it stack up to the present model’ lol
