Exclamation Sudden down shift on Interstate!

I was traveling between PA and WV on a hunting trip. I was traveling a four lane road about 70 mph, heard a loud bang and the back tires chirped! About two seconds later it happened again but this times the motor was screaming RPM's and I was starting to slide sideways, then had no engine power 1000 RPM's and no reaction from the gas pedal. I pulled over shut it off waited about 5 minutes for my hands to stop shaking, started it up and everything was fine. Drove 500 miles to finish the trip with no issues.
It all happened so fast I'm not sure of everything that happened but if felt like it dropped to low gear revved the motor into a shut down mode with the wrench symbol on the dash.

2010 F 150 STX 4.6L 38,000 miles Bought this truck with 14,000 miles, maybe that's why it was traded in.

I know there are other posts on this but what can I do? It may never happen again or it might do it next week, a little freaked out to drive it now!

Personally, I'd take it either to the dealer or to a mechanic to see if they can pick up any codes that won't normally show. You said that it threw the wrench symbol, but never stated if it threw the check engine light. Considering that it threw the wrench, I would assume that it might have a code stored for why it threw the wrench.

With the Holiday I with try on Friday to get a code check. Didn't see a check engine light. I e-mail Ford and waiting in a response from them.

Thanks, I will keep you updated.

Got back from my hunting trips this past Friday and went to my local dealer, ended up test driving a 2014 instead of making an appointment to get my truck checked out. I told them about them problem I had and they gave me the trade-in amount I wanted. So I pick my new truck up on Monday.

I drove the truck over 1000 miles since it downshifted but they were very tense miles, it's always in the back of your mind. Had to get rid of it.

I hear ya. That's pretty scary and I would have been getting rid of it also. What is with all these super dangerous problems on these new f150s? Not sure if i would ever buy one.
