I just bought a 2013 Platinum (black) and already want the silver plastic gone off the tailgate! Through reading I've found that pulling the plastic off is not an option due to the guide holes in the gate. My question is this....

What year range of gates will fit and did they change anything from say 09-13 on the gates or are they all identical?

I thought this was clear until I read my post... My goal here is to put a gate on from a black XLT or Lariat that doesn't have the Silver plate on the back. What year range will fit and did they make any changes over those years?

As far as I know (and this is going as far as looking up part numbers while my parts guy is still at his order desk) they are all the same size. Base XL up to Limited and Raptor. Even old-man-step and plain jane are the same size, just different inner plate and top trim for the step

No changes. Any 09-14, and any trim gate will fit.

But....if you want to maintain your backup camera and tailgate step you're going to have a harder time finding a tailgate with those features and the color you want...

My 2010 Lariat had the backup camera in the tailgate. So you just need to decide what is important when finding a replacement.

Back up cameras are easily swapped from gate to gate. And if his truck is black, more than likely it's tuxedo black code UH. Which is extremely common. I believe the hardest part will be finding a used step gate for a good price. They are very expensive brand new

just a thought but wouldnt it be a whole lot cheaper to have a shop paint the silver piece. Guys here have had their plastic chrome painted and it looks pretty good.

it's a shame you can't order the platinum model/trim w/out the brushed aluminum plate on the tailgate.
