2013 f150 noise!!!

Thanks for the input I know my troubleshooting monologue was a bit long but if read, it lays out precisely the parameters for the noise, not timing chains or ticking while stopped. It is something ill worry about because I bought a truck that I don't want to have problems with. This noise isn't normal and sounds like shoddy build quality/workmanship from Borg or ford or both. I'm giving it a few more thousand miles to break in. After which someone telling me not to worry about it, simply will not do.

Hi jds3403,
Where you ever able to resolve the ticking noise issue?
I recently just bought a 2013 fx4 5.0 new and has the same issues as described.
Brought it to a dealership where tech agreed the noise was not normal.
He replaced the front passenger side hub, but this did not resolve the issue and noise is still present.
I'm looking to see if anyone was able to find a fix or if Ford service on this thread was able to help any.
Thanks

Nope
Hey man i wish i did have a fix but unfortunately no. Still ticking away and annoying as ever, its either the transfer or tranny. If i get bored enough im going to drop the transfer and then run it on stands to see as i know Ford is just going to part swap and their patience im sure will be short lived. Im really hoping someone has a fix or atleast knows what it is. Other than that love my truck

Hello everyone ! I'm new here to this forum , so I apologize if I'm digging up/reviving an old thread, but I'd really like to know if anyone has ever figured this one out? I bought a 2014 F150 STX 4X4 (3.7L) back in October , and I also have had this issue since day one/right off the dealer lot. The following day I returned to the dealership and spoke with the service writer and took a test run with a tech who also heard the noise and agreed that it wasnt right so they brought the truck in the shop and looked it over. Since it was close to the end of their day they kinda just said they dont know and to give it some time. Fair enough...I worked as a Ford tech 20 or so years ago , and the way warranty work pays out, you can be sure most techs don't want to lose their paycheck chasing down a difficult noise! So I agreed and told the service writer i'd give it a few thousand miles..its gonna get better / stay the same/ or get worse...well im at 4000 and I'm gonna go in for my 1st service and the noise is still there!! I've also went through some home-style diagnostics like jds3403 has and came up with the same conclusions (transmission or transfer case )..I've also got a friend of mine who is a Ford technician to take a quick look and he was even kinda stumped..although he cant really hear it as well a I can, but he believes he hears it in trans with the screwdriver stethescope method while on the lift (however we never dropped the driveshaft to seperate the rear end ). I know some posts even say they've replaced just about everything and still have the noise. Anyway I know this is long, but i'm really interested to see if anyone ever got a resolution to this...it seems like every thread on this matter just abruptly ends..surely someone has seen this through to completion???

The dead thread
Unfortunately no, i have yet to resolve this. Its either emanating from the trans or transfer. Im at 21k mileage wise and it still makes the noise. I have yet to take it in for warranty work as i'm simply too busy at work and don't believe it to be a point of mechanical failure in the future. Honestly, I leveled the truck and put 35x11 tires on it and between the exhaust and tires, I've managed to sufficiently drown out the noise. Not my intent but nonetheless secondary effects worked to my favor. Its still there to the trained ear but subtle. Id like to do a solid axle swap with an atlas case so i when i do and the noise disappears il know the culprit.

Any updates to this thread? I've got a 14 FX4 and 5k miles with the same noise. I've taken it in once, but the guy that road with me was hard of hearing as it was and couldn't hear the noise (go figure). Taking it to another dealership over the weekend. Hopefully that will yield better results. If I find a definitive answer I'll be sure to post on here.

Took the truck into the dealership yesterday and had no joy finding any answers. The serviceman that rode in the truck claimed he could not hear any noise. They said they would lift the truck and run it to see if they could hear any noises, but called me later yesterday afternoon saying they couldn't find anything unusual and to bring it back if it gets worse. I think I'm to the point of just putting bigger tires and a louder exhaust on the thing to drown out the ticking.
