2013 F-150 Lift question

Hello people I'm the new guy on the site so Ill apologize now if I'm posting in the wrong area. I have a 2013 F-150 Eco boost crew cab 4x4. A few years back I installed a 2" leveling kit just to level the truck a little. I am wanting to put a set of 35X12.50 tires under the truck. I have heard and read that the tires will fit but I may have some rubbing of the tires on the plastic front wind flare in tight turns. I have also read somewhere that if I choose the correct Off Set in the rims I will not have that problem at all. I am also not very interested in the tires sticking out past the finders much at all. I use the truck primarily to drive to and from work. I don't go four wheeling on the weekend as a hobby. My main reason for the larger tires is cosmetics. I do hunt as much as possible so the extra few inches will obviously help me out when traveling across fields or on logging roads thru the woods occasionally. I also pull a 19 foot boat to the lake from time to time. By the way I have stock rims on my truck. Some say they will do fine with 12.50 tires and others say they will wear in the middle because they are to narrow. Needless to say I would love to keep the stock rims but obviously don't want to prematurely wear out tires. With that being said can you guys offer any guidance as to what I can do to my truck?

Go with a 35x10.50, 12.50 requires a minimum width rim of 9" Then you should have no problem using your stock rims.

Rnlcomp thank you for the information. My heart is really set on 35 X 12.50 tires. I will buy the 9" rims as recommended by you. Can you tell me the correct Offset I should look for? As I stated I don't want the tires sticking out any more than necessary. If I need a suspension lift to make it work I will also do that also. I appreciate your help.

Factory offset is +44 the closer you get to 0 the farther out they stick, I'm running a 9.5" wide wheel with -12 offset 35x12.50x18 and they stick out about 2". I'm 2wd so your truck will sit about 2" higher. I'll just throw a couple pics out and you can decide from there.

Great Looking truck! So they are 35 X12.50 tires? Wow! you don't have a lift at all?

Guys I'm really getting pumped looking at that red Ford!! OK so let me be sure I understand. I am going to order 9.5" rims with -44 Offset to eliminate the tires from sticking out. I will also be running a 35 X12.50 tires under my truck and no lift will be needed other than the 2" leveling kit I already have installed. Is this correct or did I get lost somewhere in lift chat?

+44 not -44 a negative 44 will have them sticking out almost 4"

Ok I'm on it! Do you think I can handle a +50 without rubbing?

No. Pretty sure you won't be able to clear the UCAs

Unless the wheels you like are only available in width 9.5, you can go with 18 x 9. You don't "need" 18 x 9.5.

randyman02-13 08-02-2018 03:11 PM

A 35x12.5 will fit on factory wheels with a 2 in level. I just got a set of 2018 raptor wheels and the fit with no rubbing. My truck has been trimmed but sometimes you have to be willing to trim to fit big tires. https://cimg2.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.f15...6c28f2c12.jpeg

RLXXI 08-02-2018 03:19 PM

Pretty sure the Raptor wheel is wider than a regular F150 wheel. Plus it's a 17" wheel, not 18 like the op needs. Oh and FYI you can't put a lift kit on with any wheel smaller than 18" according to Rough Country. Don't know about other lift kit manufacturers.

randyman02-13 08-02-2018 03:42 PM

The raptor wheels are 8.5in wide, the same as stock 20in wheels but have 10mm less offset(+34) stock is +44. If you are set on a 9 wide wheel look at a +18 or so on the offset. That will set the tire just on the inside of the fender. A 9 wide with that offset will almost sit almost identical to the raptor wheel I have.

RLXXI 08-02-2018 03:44 PM

Stock 18's are 7.5" wide.
.

striperday 08-14-2018 09:38 AM

OK. Let me sure I understand. As stated above by Rncomp I have stock rims right now that are said to be 7.5" wide. I know they are 18" rims. With that understanding and also knowing I have a 2" leveling Kit installed already can I go to a so called Junk Yard and find 4 Raptor rims (That are not bent from a crash) and install 35 X 12.50 tires on my truck and not have any rubbing and also they not stick out much at all?

randyman02-13 08-14-2018 08:16 PM

Yes, they may rub a little bit on the plastic on the front bumper. But you can trim that. You could also find a set of factory 20in wheels from an F150 they are the same width as the raptor wheels or any aftermarket 9in wide wheel with a +18 offset will work. But you could also run a 35/12.5r18 on your stock wheels. A ton of guys do it and you shouldn’t have any issues. I ran a 285 on a 7in wide wheel and never had an issue. I would run a wide tire on a factory wheel but I never had the factory wheels for my truck.
If you have any more questions feel free to ask

striperday 08-15-2018 12:42 PM

ok great. some say I can run a 35 x 12.50 on my stock rims without and premature tire tread wearing and others say it to narrow of a time. What i'm seeing on average is I need a t least a 9"rim. Your saying to use a +18 and others are saying to use a +44. I'm so confused now I have forgotten what kind of truck I have Ha Haa!

randyman02-13 08-15-2018 12:46 PM

Here is a 20x9 +18 I ran on my truck. They didn’t stick out at all and I could have put a set on 35’s on but I got a good deal on the raptor wheelshttps://cimg8.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.f15...25d1e79b2.jpeg

striperday 08-15-2018 12:53 PM

Nice ride. So the +44 will tuck further under the finders?

SteveLord 08-15-2018 01:25 PM

Yes it would as that is essentially the stock offset. However, larger than stock tires with that offset increases your chances of rubbing.

TWilson_ 08-15-2018 02:07 PM

On a leveled F150, I have only run 305/55R20 (approximately 33x12) and even that needed some trimming of plastics. All on aftermarket wheels, but I'm not sure what the offset was. Currently have a 6" lift with 35's and toying with the idea of 37's, so I'm in the same boat.

striperday 08-17-2018 09:05 AM

OK here is another question. I am CONSIDERING installing a 6" Rough County lift. I am only doing it for cosmetics. I am concerned about premature wearing of any mechanical parts. Do I need to be concerned about that?

TWilson_ 08-17-2018 01:03 PM

I don't have personal experience with Rough Country lift, but I have only read negative things about it. One of those - you get what you pay for- situations. I have a BDS 6" lift and love it. But just do plenty of research beforehand because the negatives I have read aren't about ride quality, but more along the lines of build quality, reliability, and stressing factory suspension geometry which other lifts (more expensive) will correct. I'm also sure there are plenty of people out there that are happy with their RC kits also, I would just rather spend a little more to have full confidence in a system.

Kkline 08-17-2018 09:58 PM

I am running the tire size that you are after. My details in my sig if you want to look. You will see my trimming in the front as well.

Also remember just because they don’t rub sitting on the road doesn’t mean they won’t rub offroad. I almost tore my inner fender out on the first vditch I went through. Had to trim that out as well. No big deal fixed it immediately on trail with a razor knife.

If you are doing this for cosmetic looks you really should get new rims, look so much better than stock.

Obviously I don't know anything about lifts. What separates say the Rough County lift from the BDS lift. Just trying to learn.

striperday 10-11-2018 11:47 AM

Iv decided to install a RC 6" lift. Now I'm in the process of deciding on a wheel with an Offset that will work without sticking out. I am looking at an 18 X 9 with a +25 Offset. I will be running 35 X12.50. Will that work on my truck?

striperday 11-11-2018 11:56 AM

OK here we go. So I installed a 6" RC lift. A week after I had the truck lifted I left the house one morning and heard what sounder like a roaring noise that increased as the speed of the truck increased. I stopped on the side of the road for about 10 seconds and pulled out. Not sure what it was but the roaring stopped. Last night I was out Coyote hunting and the noise started again. The difference is the noise never quite this time unless the truck was setting still. After getting on youtube and looking around I see that lots of people are having the same issue where the IWE valve was bad or a hole was in the vacuum line. I checked the vacuum lines and everything so far is checking out fine. There is one thing that will stop the noise from happing and that is when I lock the truck in 4x4. Any suggestions?

striperday 02-09-2019 11:10 AM

Firs I want to say thanks to all those that helped me build my truck. I'm running a 6: lift with 35 x 12.50 x 20. with a +18 rim. Love it! I have another dilemma that I'm sure you guys can help me with. My speedometer and MTE gauge is off which was expected due to the larger tires. My shift points also needs some adjustment. I have plans to install a few Mods to help the performance such as K&N filter system and a new Intercooler.

I guess I'm wanting to not just look good but also boost the power. I can handle most all the upgrades BESIDES the selection of a good power booster upgrade which they say will also adjust shift timing etc. such as the Hypertech 2000 energy booster. I would love to hear from all you guys as to what I need to be careful with and also if the Hypertech is a good decision. I don't want to hurt the truck permanently by adding stuff that the overall truck cant handle. I really appreciate you guys!!!

SteveLord 02-09-2019 03:57 PM

Get a custom tune from 5star or MPT. They will be installed onto an SCT X4 programmer you'll use. Research each and decide which looks good to you.

Expect to pay 400-500 bucks. But it will fix your speedo and give you a power boost. Even more so considering you have the Ecoboost engine.

striperday 02-10-2019 01:08 PM

What I am finding is that most all seem to be about the same. They all offer the same upgrades for about the same price. Not real sure what to buy. Guess Ill just keep shopping.

SteveLord 02-10-2019 02:39 PM

I feel like MPT is a little more favored for Ecoboost especially. But you can't go wrong with either. Just know being in boost more often with your mods = your MPG will tank.

can you post pictures of how your truck looks now with the lift and how far the tires stick out? This is exactly what I want to do to my truck soon!
