Default 2012 STX vs XLT Help

Hello

Im brand new to forum and researching new F150 models. My family has always owned Fords and I am preparing to buy my first new truck so I need some help, advice and opinions. Here it goes.

I have been looking at a few models, the FX4, XLT and STX, and running a few comparisons. I think I have ruled out the FX4 because its a little to expensive but it still has a glimmer of hope.
First, I have been looking at the XLT series at some local dealerships and really like the interior and additional features of the truck (over the STX). I like the storage in the flip down jump seat and I like the stand alone console even better. I also like the storage compartment for glasses, garage door opener, etc on the ceiling. I want SYNC but unfortunately have to add the convenience package to get it. That means heated turn signal mirrors, power pedals and a driver power seat. Outside of SYNC those additional features are more of liability to me because its another power something that can break. Also, I hate the chrome package that nearly every single one has on the exterior around here. The weather conditions in North East Ohio will eat the chrome alive and I HATE CHROME.
I would like to find an XLT with SYNC, no convenience, no plus, no chrome packages. Is this a possibility?

Secondly, I have been looking at the STX and really like the way the exterior of that series looks. I like the black grille, the body colors bumpers and the tires and rims in the decour package and especially no chrome. the interior is very similiar to the XLT minus a few creature comforts. I really want SYNC on the STX but I am having a hard time finding one with the SYNC comms package. Another point to mention is my cousin bought a brand new 2012 STX because he wanted a functional truck that wasn't to pretty to get dirty. He hated the flip down jump seat in it and I agree, so he searched for a gray stand alone console from a 2012 XLT all over the place, found it and installed. he said it was a 30 minute swap and the console brings a whole new feel to the trucks interior. I want to very the ease of the swap......is it really that easy?

Finally, fill me in on personal opinions and reviews of the different models. I want to know as much as I can from STX and XLT owners. I have bought a new car from a dealership before and the sales "consultants" wil say anything to get a sale and strike me as dummies, so I dont put much stock in a sales assoc review

I have the XLT with the chrome package, tow package but had to buy it that way to get 10K off MSRP. You can definetly get the XLT with about anything you want. I went to ford.com and built what I wanted and then went to the dealer and asked what they had to match. We came close enough to strike a deal. Another way to buy is search on auto trader for 2012s and you may be able to get some special internet pricing.

The stx was a bit sporty and if memory serves me the interior was vinal flooring that I would have loved when younger for ease of cleaning. I like some of the captins chairs and center console set up as well.

I LOVE my XLT it is a 5.0 2wd but the truck is great.

What ever you decide it will be an awsome rig for pleasure and play. enjoy and welcome to the forum.

Convenience package and chrome package were usually ordered together because Ford was giving a $1500 credit if you ordered both, essentially giving you the chrome package free. I had an Explorer (Exploder) XLT 2 vehicles ago and wanted a comparable trim package in the F150.

Order the truck you want. That's what I did.

I agree. The chrome package on XLTs are hideous. I have a 2006 XLT and the first thing I did was get rid of the chrome bumpers. I can't help you with the comparisons though as I have never looked at the STXs. Where in north east Ohio are you? I also live in north east Ohio.

In Canada you can order an STX with front buckets and center console.
Is that not possible on US models?

My STX should be here next week. Ordered June 18th.
I could have got an STX, equipped with more luxuries, but I hate chrome.

I love my STX! I added the console after also and it is a 30 min swap, super easy to do. I also added auto headlights, TBC and an aftermarket HU. I got mine with the sync and vinyl floors. I LOVE the vinyl floors, easy clean up and no carpet to worry about.

I also went with the STX over XLT because I hate chrome. I wanted the FX4 but couldn't justify the extra cost. The STX looks just as good and I have added the "extras" that I wanted for very little by doing some research.

Looking like the STX is going to win out here. I just need to find one with the sync comm package

considering production on 2012's has ended, you may have problems finding exactly what you want. here in MD, STX's are kinda hard to come by.
I love the mono-chrome look of the STX/FX trucks. I also dislike a lot of chrome on my trucks. I LOVE MY RUBBER FLOOR!!!!!! if it gets dirty just sweep it out. I actually wanted the base model stereo for the ease of upgrading down the road, but ended up with the upgraded (but not sync) radio because picking were slim.

I have a reg cab so periodically I NEED the extra seat the fold down console provides, but I also wanted the storage the XLT style provides, so just 2 weeks ago I bought a used one from another member on here.
I LITERALLY opened the box and looked at it at 10pm at night, and including getting my tools out and cleaning them up afterwards I was finished swapping them out and back inside by 10:30. it really is that easy. my understanding is when swapping to the actual console from a split bench setup some of the holes "may" need to be modified. but I havent personally done it so I cannot confirm or deny. but even if said mod needs done its very minor and still should be doable in less than an hour start to finish.

in the end I do not regret my STX purchase one bit. I find it to be THE PERFECT trim level for those truck buyers who want just a bit above a base model. just enough to make is NICE, but not luxury by any means.
