Have you resetting the MPG calculator? The previous owner could have let it idle for a while right before he/she sold it, Make sure the parking brake isn't on, make sure it isn't in 4x4 if you have it. F150 are no prius's but mileage shouldn't be that bad.

Unless your driving that thing like your john force, you should be getting 12-14 city mpg In a stock truck with stock sized tires.

Wink

I have an '11 Lariat supercrew 4x4 with the 6.2 Max Tow and 3.73LS gears, and a SCT Livewire. On short trips around town doing errands, driving civil, I'll get 12-14 mpg, sometimes 15 mpg or so on trips that have a short stint on a highway for a few miles. These trips aren't "city" per say, but in the burbs on posted roads from 35-50 mph. The Livewire definitely helped a bit with gas mileage. But I need to drive in a "civil" manor. Now, if I'm on one of my 91 or 93 Oct. performance tunes, well, 11-13 mpg city driving. Even when she was stock, even with "spirited" driving on the Livewire, I've never gone below 10.5-11 mpg. So yea, unless there is a problem with the truck, you surely should be doing better.

penndon50 - I just purchased a used 2011 Ford F150 SuperCrew Platinum and I am getting 8 mpg city can any one tell me why. Or how I can fix or improve this problem . I am new to the F150 world.
  1. IT'S WINTER ...
    .
    • longer warm-up. *Time it takes for the engine to get-up to operating temp'.
      .
    • lower PSI in the tires. *You did adjust them for the cooler temp's, right?
      .
    • more rolling resistance until the driveline gets-up to operating temp'.
      .
    • seasonal blended fuel.
      .
      etc., etc., etc..
    .
  2. Got modifications?
    .
    • lift/leveling impacts MPG.
      .
    • change in wheel diameter impacts MPG. *ESPECIALLY if the PCM isn't flashed to accomodate the change.
      .
    • wider (aspect ration) and/or heavier (P > LT) tires impact MPG.
      .
      etc., etc., etc..
    .
  3. Manner in which MPG is calculated.
    .
    • DO NOT rely/use onboard PCM calculated #s.
      .
    • manually calculate MPG - miles traveled /(divided-by) gallons used (as indicated on the gas pump).
    .
  4. CHANGE YOUR DRIVING STYLE/HABITS.
