2010 Dodge burnt differential
Had a fleet customer come in today wanting front/rear differential and t case serviced. Our records show rear differential was serviced 5000 miles ago. They have been having noise since the company owner towed a 25 ft enclosed trailer. The employee said there is no way he would have hauled that trailer with a half ton.
Pop the dif plug and the fluid with 5k is burnt black and the smell of burnt gear oil fills the shop. It's still rolling so they'll just run it and see what happens.
Interesting what too much tongue weight will do to bearings. Truck has about 50k on it. I looked at GVWR out of curiosity, 6700lbs!!
The moral of the story for me was, I wish I had some peoples money!
