2008 F-150 4.6L coil pack issue?
Hello,
I recently purchased a 2008 F-150 4x4 supercab 4.6L Quite happy with the truck except for one thing. During idling at red lights (while vehicle is in drive)if it's a longer light and the truck has been idling for +1 minutes and waiting to go , it will do a sputter and cough (if you like). A friend tells me that it could be that a coil pack issue.
If I'm correct, there would be 8 coil packs in the 4.6 L engine. I have no check engine light , so cannot run a scan looking for a flagged code.
Anyone have any suggestions as to what i might be experiencing and what the best way ahead might be?

Even tho there has not been a check engine light, there could be a code stored. If so, may be helpful for trouble shooting. Your local parts store will read for no charge. Get a tuner and you can read codes among many other advantages.
Yes, 8 COPS. Once you have a code, you may be able to switch COPS from one cylinder to another for troubleshooting. No codes present, a shot in the dark.
Other than that, where to start:
- Clean MAF
- Clean throttle body
- Do relearn procedure after the above
- Check condition of FPDM mounted above spare tire
All of the above are possibilities. You can get more info on each item via the search function.
