Default Transmission shift into park

I live in Northern MI where it was 10 degrees this morning and we had fresh snow. With that said I stuck my truck for the first time. It was in a 2 foot drift. When I shifted into park the wheels were still turning because to my surprise they were suspended in the air. The tranny clicked about 6 times. Everything seems to work, but does anyone know if I could have damaged my transmission? Almost everything on the truck is idiot proof - hopefully this is too.

Probably just the parking pawl catching on its notch. I've put shift lever in park while still moving slow a few times over many years, never hurt anything. Not something I like to do. We should always have our foot firm on the brake when shifting into park.
