Smile 2004 FX4 info needed

Hi, I have a '04 FX4 that I have some issues with. First, when I make right or left turns, it seems like my rear end is grabing hard, and shakes the truck. Also I want to remove the fender flares and cowl vents to repaint them. does anybody know a size or number for the retainer clips holding these on? I am wanting to repair this issue and touch up my truck before I upgrade to a new FX4. Any help would be awesome !

I have 79,000....I got the truck in '08, and it did it then, just not very bad. but now it seems to be getting alot worse. Sounds to me this could be an expensive problem? Truck had 40,000 when I got it.

Yea if clutches are bad I saw them for 80 on eBay and labor should be around 400 or so. Unless there is more damage to other parts like ur spider gears? Them throw about another 250 on top of that. Or you can get a total new rebuilt 3rd member. Reuse ur old ring and pinion for about 550 then plus labor to remove and install for about 450 or do.

Are you sure the mileage is right? My truck has 93,000 and I just went into rear end to install new 4.56 gears to offset my 35 Toyo tires with my 6" lift. I was impressed how new it still looked internal. Sounds to me like either ur mileage is off or water inside diff or someone put the wrong fluid. It should be full synthetic fluid. Not straight 90 weight.

I had the same problem with my 02 and 05 FX4s. 02 had 23000 on it and 05 61000 when the problem occurred. It's the clutch packs in the limited slip. Common problem with Ford trucks, so I've been told. Roughly $800 bucks for a dealer to fix it. Just make sure to call around and get some quotes.

Before you go to the expence of repair, drain and refill with 75W140 syntheic gear lube and a bottle of friction modifier. New fluid might stop the chatter enough if you plan on trading it.

finally got around to changing the fluid. everything looked good inside. Nothing looked broke or anything. I have only drove it around the block, seems to be a little better. Maybe the more I drive it, it will get better? Thanks for the help everybody ! couple more little things and I will be selling it. If the rear end doesn't get better, i will probably trade it. Won't sell someone something that needs worked on. But I would make more selling out right than trading it.
