Default 2000 F150 rear diff clutch replacement

Greetings! So, I've got this vibration whenever I do the slow turn in any direction, and I've read that it is most likely the clutches going bad in the differential. I have already put some of the additive in it and no change. It's been going on for a few months and seems to be getting progressively worse.

I've done lots of google searching, and cannot find any videos or step by step instructions to replace them. Anyone have a link to such a thread/video or the service manual steps to replace?

Also, can someone tell me what part I need to order? The tag says L55 9 75.

Thanks in advance!!

Phil

Here's some more - https://www.youtube.com/results?sear...build+Ford+8.8

It's the same basic design. You can get the clutch kits on Amazon too.

But..vibration during slow turn is a little weak on the diagnostics. The "L 55" is definitely a Traction Lock though. Good luck.

There is a number under the bolt head that's holding the tag on. It's probably a "3", so 3L55 would be a 3.55 track lock. and the 9 75 is a 9.75 rear end.

Thank you. It's a pretty obvious vibration/shimmy coming from the rear at slow turns in any direction, left/right & forward/backwards. What else could cause that? Everything I have read online suggests that it is the clutches. This was my dad's truck and 3 years ago it had 15k miles. Now it has 45k miles.

Door jam says H9.

I called 2 Ford dealers, and they gave me part number 9L3Z-4947-D, but neither one could say for certain that it was the correct part for my truck. The 2nd dealer I spoke to said that this "kit" is for newer trucks, and their system only sells individual clutch plates for my truck. He was supposed to ask the service techs and get back to me, but hasn't.

I would check with East Coast Gear Supply and see what they offer. Maybe give them a call if you are concerned about the fitment.

It doesn't have even the miles on it to need a diff fluid change, by the Ford specs. 45,000 miles in 18 years? It must sit a lot. Probably has the original tires on it. They probably have some serious flat spots from all of the sitting. Rubber can take a set. One possibility. Hard to see why the clutch plates would be worn, except for possibly rust from condensation in the diff.

Here's the Amazon parts.
