Hi All,
I really like this site and appreciate all you have contributed. After reading, I think my question is somewhat simple. I'm buying a 2016 Lariat but am really stuck on which engine to get. I will tow but not much more 3 times per year and probably no more than 4000lbs (a few ATV's). I will drive upwards to about 60,000 kms/yr (37,000 miles). Yes that's a lot and 80% will be highway. The Lariat will have a 6.5 Box and 18" wheels (stock until winter). Also I think I'm fine with the 3.31.
Should I get the 5.0 or the 3.5EB?
Thanks again guys.

I have a 11 with the 5.0, I pull my 5250lbs dry weight camper a few times of the year and the pontoon boat a lot less than I would like. No problem with power and less mechanical stuff to break than the twin turbo's.If I hauled more I would've wanted the torque of the eco. I have 355 gears which I think is a good compromise of mileage and power.I had my mind set to buy a 3/4 ton truck till I started looking at mileage ratings and such and decided the 150 was still the best choice for me.I'm getting 17.4 with mixed driving of city and short runs on the big roads and the curvy country roads here in E Tn.

When I was deciding between a couple of used trucks, I went with the one a bit less expensive because I didn't want the extra bits that I'd likely not use, but that could still cause me to spend money on if it broke.
With the amount of miles you drive every year I'd say go with the one that cost less to own years down the road. Take into account MPG, ease of repair (I remember reading 5.4 engines were more difficult to work on than 5.0 when I was looking,) look at maintenance schedules to see if they differ etc.
