Default 1960's F 100

so I found out that a 1960's Ford F 100 stick shift 1/2 ton would get about 15-17 MPG. is this true? how much does a 1960's shortbed half ton get? what kind of ford F 1000 would get this kind out gas mileage? email me or reply AViancourt@gmail.com

thanks

Depends on gearing, but yes, most light duty pickups usually get on an average of somewhere near 15 mpg.

I found an old add from the 60s advertising that the f100 got 17 mpg highway, the big 3 really have done much to improve mpg in the last 50 years

Its because everybodys so hell bent on higher payload/ tow capacity and creature comforts.

Plus the gubment and their emmissions...

OP, that would probably be a truck with a 240 or 300 straight six and 3 speed manual. They got good numbers cause they were so light. Take a 2013 RCSB with no body on it and it would prbably weigh more than a 66 RCSB...

Default '60 F100 mileage

I know this is an old post, but I just came across it. I think a lot has to do with the engine and transmission. A '60 F100 fleetside was my first vehicle and I got 19 on the highway. Overall about 17. But then I had the small straight 6 with 3 on the tree. Up a steep hill in second at 40, and vibration from somewhere (probably tires) that showed up at 62, so that became my informal speed governor. Loved the truck. Could stand inside the engine compartment to work on it.
