Default 17 inch rims or 20inch, will this effect ride quality ?

So I'm about to buy new tires for my F-150,, I've decided to run 33s. And lately I've seen different versions of my truck running 33s on 17 inch rims versus 33s on 20 inch rims. Both look good and I was wondering if the size of the rims would have any pros, cons, differences in ride quality or advantages. What is your opinion???

A lot of that will depend on the tires you go with. Traditionally speaking, the larger the wheel, the harsher the ride. However, handling is usually better with less sidewall, so the 20's would be better there.

A pro of the 17's would be less chance of scratching a wheel while off road, since there's more tire sidewall if you rub up against any obstacles.

There's probably more pros and cons, but those are the first that come to mind.

You can also deflate a taller sidewall tire (17") than the same diameter tire on a 20" wheel. This can be useful when offroading.

If your in between just go with 18's...I bought 20's with some Nitto Ridge Grapplers. 20's are also more expensive.

33's on 20's will ride just fine on road. My friends tell me that my truck on that size tires and rims is one of the most comfortable trucks they have ever been in. 22's and up are when you really see a harsher ride, because of the low profile tires. With 33" tires, you'll still have plenty of sidewall.

Biggest thing, is what the other poster said. If you drive off road a lot, and need to lower tire pressure for conditions, the 17's will be better.

I hear the ride is better with 17's over 20's, but I don't really feel the difference. I run 35's on 17's, I have a buddy running 33's on 20's, they're the same. I would just buy whatever you think looks better. Do you want more wheel and less tire, or more tire and less wheel? A 33" tire on a 17" wheel will be cheaper than a 33" tire on a 20" wheel as well.

I think I'm gonna go with the 33s on 17s,, I figure smaller rims makes the tires look bigger...

I am running 17x9 wheels and 33x12.50x17 nitto ridge grapplers on my 2017 3.5 eco
Imho a tire with a taller sidewall looks better on a truck you will still get a more comfortable ride. Plus if you do any off-roading in your truck like i do mine you have more protection, as a previous poster stated it protects your wheels a little more and you can deflate your tires more for better traction.
As far as the nitto ridge grapplers i have not found any complaints about that tire at all
Good luck
