12 wides or 14 wides?
I have a 2006 F-150 5.4 SuperCab that I’m looking to buy new wheels and tires for in a few months. The truck currently has the stock 17” chrome wheels wrapped with some TreadWright A/T Warden’s in 245/75-17. Currently with this setup I’m sitting pretty flush with the fenders, without fender flares. I’m looking for a wider stance, hence the title. Right now I have two choices as far as wheels go 1.) 20x12 -51 offset or 2.) 20x14 -76 offset. I’m planning on getting them from Custom Offsets as a package, but my only options for tires are a 33x12.5 M/T. I’m going with a 33 for sure due to the fact that I’m not looking at doing a lift for a few years and will be installing a 3” front leveling kit (think I have a 2” currently). My other mods around the time I do the wheels are going to be a gear swap from 3.73 to 4.88, CIA and Edge programmer, new throttle body with spacer, Roush middle side exit exhaust (no headers yet), new spark plugs, slotted rotors, heavy duty tie rods, and heavy duty hubs and bearings as well as new LCA’s (just replaced my UCA’s with MOOG products as the boots were torn).
I usually do do some light off-roading like fire roads and the occasional mountain trail here in northern Utah, but I know I’ll pretty much have to abandon any off-roading other than a well traveled fire road due to the expensive wheels as well as a higher stress on my front end. If you e read this far then basically here’s my questions:
Those of you with either a 12 or 14 wide setup, what pro’s and con’s have you personally experienced? Is choosing the 14 or the 12 I have listed really that much of a difference when it comes to wear and tear? What issues could arise with a 12.5 stretched onto a 14? I’m also planning a 2,000 mile drive back home in 2.5 years and want to know if either of these setups will be hell on that drive especially with a loaded down uhaul trailer? If I went with a 12 wide due to the 12.5 wide tires, would 2” quality spacers give me the same result without the extra stretch? Don’t think I can think of any other questions at the moment, so any positive help is much appreciated. I’m planning on seeing a few hate comments, but I like this look and it’s my truck. Thanks!

Why are you putting 4.88 gears with 33" tires? That is going to be absolutely terrible for highway speeds.
Don't waste money on an aftermarket CAI. You already have one, they come factory. Any aftermarket CAI will just change the sound.
Your butt dyno won't see a difference with a new TB, and a real dyno probably won't see an improvement with a TB spacer. Again, they're gimmicks.
12 or 14 wide with 12.5 tires - hope you don't curb your wheels because if they touch any curb they are getting ruined. The lip sticks out further than the tire. Same goes for being in mud. I personally wouldn't run a 12.5 wide on a x12 wheel, and definitely not a x14 wheel. It's not as safe as if they were within spec. That being said, plenty of people do with no problems, but some people blow beads. Better off getting a 13.5 tire and putting it on a x12 wheel.
